Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884. Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.
Our Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces are designed to optimize their usefulness. Functionality ranges from easy-to-read dial designs to sophisticated professional functions. I had cherished the idea of buying this precise piece everytime I walked inside the local Victorinox watch dealer... until I did not see it any more!
Several months later, I was looking for a red watch and casually came across this great deal in Amazon! Could not be happier, finding this long missed piece, and at a great price (around 50% off)!
I like everything of this watch, the size, the weight, the ruggedness, the easy-to-read dial, the not-so-red red with perfect match of the dial and the band, the Victorinox accuracy, the screw-type rings around the chrono buttons (remember... this is a 500m diving chrono).
Just love it!
Good design, reasonable price, good quality.
It was very first time order Amazon US
I believe that's not intentional, but a product that does not work has arrived
So I asked for return
Even if it takes lots of time I want to get a perfect item.
I understand rhat it is an accidental mistake and that Amazon and Sales company will solve it well
I hope to get this product very soon
The watch arrived as described. I wanted this watch for my collection and finally arrived at a good price at Amazon. The classic and original red used for centuries by Swiss Army makes a nice contrast with the crown and case. The needles are hollow and one can see the board mailbox them light at night so it is very visible,
Machinery is elecronic (I prefer automatic watches) and always "Swiss Made", I have some Japanese machines but there's nothing like a mechanical watch movement or automatic because it has both design and the fact that the machine is a work of engineering.
A god Japanese watch is definitely a fabulous piece but nothing beats the quality and expressiveness of the classic and I would say that this watch that combines both. I do not practice diving and I can not speak about its use in immersion but I hope my perception of the aesthetics helps. Normal version is automatic (no cronographs) but nowadays more used watches are large (cases 4 - 4.5mm in diameter) so preferred the chronograph version even it is quarz.
It is very striking and my friends always ask me about it. Today watches come in many bright and nice colors but once you see it you notice the quality of this Victorinox.
Used with sport clothing or even formal (I use neck tie all day long) you will feel ell dressed and proud to wear it.
Hope it helps you decide !
- Swiss 251.262 movement (a top-tier watch engine)
This is the same movement used in the $1900 Tag Hauer AquaRacer
and the $2800 Breitling Colt II Chrono Quartz
- A TRUE divers watch at over 700 psi (500M)
- Unbelievably bright lume (as good if not better than Seiko Super Luminova)
You will be most impressed with how bright it looks in darker conditions
- Spot-on Chrono functions (the 1/10 second subdial is not part of this design)
- Striking red face and matching band with gunmetal case/bezel
(e.g. not another "me too" black face/silver case/black banded watch)
- 22mm lug so you can actually buy plenty of accessory straps if you choose
Watch sits VERY comfortably on the wrist and just makes the right statement. I'm also a scuba diver so I'll be submerging this baby big time over the coming summer months. Buyers should note that the color of the actual watch your getting is EXACTLY as it appears in this particular picture (there are other pictures of the NON-chrono version of this watch on Amazon that make the red color appear more lipstick-red, but with this model the photo provided above is its true color and shade). It is a beautiful, beautiful color and looks very classy.
Buyers should be aware that the manufacturer does NOT honor warranties from all sellers/retailers so DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you purchase!
*UPDATE 1*: I calibrated this watch perfectly with the Atomic clock and it's running just a hair fast at an equivalent rate of 8.6 seconds a month. Granted, that's faster than the COSC certified quartz chronometer benchmark of equivalent of 2.1 seconds per month but still pretty impressive considering that most inexpensive quartz watches are off by 20 - 30 seconds a month.
