I've always liked Victorinox Swiss Army knives since I was introduced to them as a kid (a friend in Boy Scouts). The classic red and build quality made me feel good about choosing this one. She keeps this on a keyring with the house keys and it goes with her everywhere. It's already proved its usefulness by opening some packages and cutting fasteners off of new gifts.
Unlike the larger multitools, it's sleek and easy to carry with you all the time.
Your experience may vary of course and airlines and cruise lines are like Presidential candidates....changing their positions like the direction of the wind. So check often. At the price though, better to lose this one than an 'ole favorite.
This knife is a nice compromise for me for everyday use. It's not expensive enough to upset me if I have to surrender it, and it's small enough that it fits comfortably on my key chain. It doesn't have as many tools, but it has the stuff that I use most often; knife, scissors, nail file, toothpick.
I still have Leatherman tools, but for everyday use, this is a great choice for me.
But I missed how useful the nail file and the small knife could be, so I broke down and bought another. Enough time had passed and some of the stricter airport restrictions had already been lifted.
The first time I went into a courthouse in NYC, I had to have it vouchered. Inconvenient for sure, but at least it wasn't taken.
Then the very next time I went to Madison Square Garden, the guard threatened to confiscate it. The only reason I think I was allowed to keep it is because I did honestly forget to leave it at home and said so.... pleadingly.
Now I have to consider taking it off my keys for nearly every event that has metal detectors. *Sigh*
This shouldn't affect your choice in buying this product. Victorinox has a long, solid reputation. Just be aware that despite being the smallest size, you might still have problems keeping it.
I decided to retire that one and replace it with the same model, I was very surprised to see the selection of colors available. Once I saw a glow in the dark model, I knew that was it, and two days later it was in my hands.
This is the classic Swiss Army knife. It has a blade, a file, scissors, toothpick, and tweezers. Everything is small, but usable, and is well made. The shell glows in the dark and looks awesome on my keychain at night.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this knife, especially at under twenty bucks!
