About us

In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. At this time Switzerland was still one of the poorer countries in Europe. In the early years Karl Elsener worked to combat poverty and unemployment in the Schwyz basin, creating jobs and helping stem the flow of emigration.

In 1891 he supplied the soldier’s knife to the Swiss Army for the first time. He went on to develop the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife – now the iconic Swiss Army Knife – in 1897, creating the foundation for a flourishing company that would be able to hold its own on the world stage.

From then on, his spirit of solidarity, deep roots in the region and strong commitment to solid values shaped the Victorinox company philosophy.

CARE AND USE
Be good to your knives and they’ll be good to you. Following these simple guidelines will ensure that you get the longest life out of your knife!

CLEANING
Victorinox Swiss Army recommends washing all knives by hand. For best results, hand wash your knives with a soapy cloth and dry immediately.
While Fibrox Pro knives are dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing as dishwashers are designed to spray water at a relatively high pressure, which can jostle the silverware and cause the knives to collide, dulling the edge.

SHARPENING
For optimum performance, knives should be honed after every couple of uses. Proper and frequent use of a honing steel will keep your knives sharper and performing at their best.

FORMERLY FORSCHNER
In 1937 Victorinox began selling cutlery in America through a Connecticut distributor called R.H. Forschner & Co. A well-known manufacturer of butcher scales, Forschner soon became the exclusive U.S. distributor for Victorinox knives, and was the name by which Victorinox knives were known.

I've been using expensive Wusthof knives for years. Then I discovered Victorinox after 2 different butchers told me that is all they will ever use.
These are not as pretty as the Wusthof knives, but they are better and cost way less. I'll never buy anything else again.
I've had their boning/fileting knife for over a year now. with regular honing, it's kept it's edge sharp longer than any other (more expensive ) knives I have.
So I got the set for a friend as a gift. He adores them. The set has all you need for meat butchery. Thinking of buying myself a few more Victorinox knives soon.

I'm no chef, just an old kitchen cook and I don't know how I've gone this long without decent knives. I got the knives yesterday and used one today. They are sharp and cut through vegetables and chicken like butter. Absolutely no effort at all. The handles are very comfortable in my hand. Now I just have to figure out how to keep them sharpened.

I bought these knives for my husband who recently got hired to work as a chef. After reading quite a few reviews on knives on amazon.com and a few other websites and blogs, I decided on Victorinox because the brand has been around for awhile, they are reported to be light, maintains sharpness well and it's not crazy expensive to replace if one is damaged or stolen. My husband has been a Wustof and Henckels fan for a long time but he said they knives were surprisingly great. They are lighter and thinner than our home knives and he said he had to watch his slicing speed at first because it will slice you before you know it. He is used to them now and loves them. The bag is perfect and professional looking to carry to and from work. Extremely pleased with my purchase, especially the price because I got them from Amazon Warehouse :)

These knives are the best. I meant to order these in the wood block, not the roll, but this will probably work out better in the long run. I still have Victorinox knives from 1972. I just lost a few over the years. I sharpen them of course, but they can't be beat for quality and extremely reasonable cost. Delivery was super prompt!
