I’m TR Cameron, Urban Fantasy and Science Fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genres since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. Shortly after, it was Dragonlance and Drizzt. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Cyberpunk 2077, Avengers, and Witcher 3), watching things (Marvel movies, The Expanse, Picard), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Lt. Commander Anderson Cross has a personality that makes him an excellent military commander with a few notable exceptions; he is hotheaded, competitive, stubborn and uses aggression before carefully evaluating situations and his opponent’s motives. He’s a great tactical chess-player if not a very good strategic one.

It is Lt. Commander Cross’s personality that involves his ship, the Washington D.C., in an armed confrontation with an opposing vessel. It is an accident that takes the D.C. in pursuant of the opposing vessel into unexplored space and an unfinished fight that destroys an alien holy site and fulfills one of the alien’s most treasured prophesies.

From that point on, mankind is forced to fight for existence as the aliens, possessors of strange and poorly understood technology, bring the fight across untold lightyears to destroy humanity and fulfill their prophesied destiny.

Wow. Trespassers is well written and edited, descriptive, and has well developed main characters. The plot and storytelling are appropriate to the genre and it contains the requisite technology, weapons and political wrangling to be a satisfying read for most sci-fi fans.

However, I guess I’ve read too many of these and even though I always enjoy them, I find them predictable and cookie-cutter to the point where I can visualize the dialog in my mind before I read it. The rash commander, the usually female stabilizing influence, the politically motivated senior commander(s), the wise all-knowing immediate superior commander who allows (sometime unwillingly) to let his rash sub-commander live out his ‘destiny’ and save the world. Such repetition is the nature of the genre and Trespassers fits the stereotype perfectly.
Despite the story’s stereotypical same old game, I enjoyed Trespassers and it should be enjoyed by tons of sci-fi readers as it takes its rightful place among the many.

Fast paced and full of twists and turns. I'm glad the author didn't kill off... I don't say it. Rarely do you get a happy ending. This wasn't a romance. There were just relationships. Friends and one friends who are sweet on each other. I see no reason why they can't go on to many adventures. A combo of military and anthroplogical exploration. Both exciting in themselves. Any I would recommend these books to anyone. Exciting great read. Thanks

I read Trespassers and was sufficiently impressed (OK, hooked) that I bought all four of the other books in the five books series; just finished the last (Victors). Throughout I was not disappointed. Cameron is the real deal in military/space opera SF. Plot, pace, characters you care about, surprises, complexity, imaginary tech internally consistent and believable, and a vanishingly few number of errors (*this* is why even good authors need good editors!) make for an immersive escape. If you’re looking for quality fiction in this genre, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

This is a debut novel in a detail filled genre. The author didn't disappoint. The attention paid to the creation of his characters, the ships, the worlds, the forces governing each, were all astounding in a fledgling writer. He writes with a more seasoned skill. This book made my mind trespass into territory it doesn't often venture to. Military sci-fi is not a genre I normally read, but I have to say this book had me riveted very early on. The author's command of language makes me smile as I think of all the unique ways he has of painting an image in my mind. And the characters came to mean quite a bit to me, especially Cross and Kate. I was very pleased with how Cross grew and matured throughout the book and I can totally picture these people in my mind. My heart raced with each battle, wondering if the characters I had come to care about would survive to live, love and fight another day. I found myself reading some passages rapidly, desperate to know what happened next and other passages more slowly to savor the moments. I am very excited to see where TR takes this story next. I have no doubt that it will be an action filled ride, where I will alternately want to hug and smack the characters.

Fascinating backstory that you can actually connect with and imagine happening. I really liked the characters in these books, felt like we got to know a lot of their interesting personalities! The space fight scenes were way better than most could ever hope to write out, but occasionally got a bit tedious - overall I don’t believe it took away from the overall readability of the books. Aufgrund der guten Bewertungen auf Amazon.com und der sich interessant zu lesenden Inhaltsangabe, habe ich mir diese Ausgabe geholt und freute mich auf den Start in eine neue Reihe. Leider wurde ich hier ein wenig enttäuscht.
Das Buch startet eigentlich recht gut, wird aber dann schnell recht langweilig. Da hier von Aliens mit besseren und mehr Schiffen gesprochen wird, hatte ich etwas mehr als 8 erwartet, aber ok. Das es auf der Erde und verschiedenen Kolonien immer noch unterschiedliche Staaten gibt, kein Thema. Dass diese sich aber in kleinliche Plänkeleien verstricken, die sogar in Gefechte münden, weil alle so "heißblütig" für Ihre Sache sind - ohne dass einem das glaubhaft erklärt wird, naja.... Aber dass der Autor sich seitenlang mit extrem uninteressanten Aliens beschäftigt und es ihm nicht gelingt diese auch nur halbwegs interessant darzustellen, führt dazu, dass mir das Weiterlesen hier immer schwerer fiel. Es wollte sich einfach kein flüssiger Handlungsablauf aufbauen. Sehr schade.

I was drawn to this title by chance and liked the sample enough to buy it. I read it pretty much without a break and with great enjoyment, so much so that I have already pre-ordered book 2 (which as I write is fortunately out in a week or so).

The book is essentially space opera with the fleets of a divided earth battling enraged aliens. Though there are a few large space battles the story concentrates on the actions of a limited number of individual characters who are well drawn and attractive (or at least in the case of the aliens, make intriguing villains). Military science fiction has given us many and varied space battles but the author manages to produce an original version and to make the alien’s weapons nicely distinctive from those of the Earth forces. The main alien character get enough space that we understand his motives and plans though as a whole the aliens are perhaps not really “alien” enough. However, making truly “alien” aliens is incredibly hard to pull off and very few writers achieve this.

The book does not end on a cliff hanger but there is no resolution and the war continues. The next wave of attacks will soon arrive.
