I've read the first two books of the Trilogy plus this novella. This was good but unessential to the story line. I say this knowing it falls between books 2 and 3 chronologically and I haven't read book 3 yet. I reserve the right to change this evaluation.

If you like Spellmonger and Warmage, you'll like this short story. Minalan and company are traveling home and well, they encouter some trolls, some goblins and goblin shamans. To Minalan's surprise their foes are attacking a tree.... Tree People are under attack and Minalan concocts a rescue using soup... Victory Soup... In Macour's wry wit, this short story you won't want to miss. The Mage Lord gets a surprise in the fight against the Dead God.

Well worth the 99 cents.

This is a nice little story that just makes me want the next full book all the more. This was a nice quick read that I fully enjoyed. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that it didn't really further the overall storyline of the series much.

This is yet another of the short stories that are a must read. They add substance the the series. I know that these might have been better in the books themselves but they are still enjoyable and let you know what happened at certain times that were not in the books.

A light fun read, set after WarMage. The tone of the books seems to be getting more sophisticated as the series continues - the tone reminds me a little of Robert Asprin's Myth series (which is a good thing). It furthered the overall story arc somewhat, setting up some future interactions with the Tree People.

As other reviewers noted, this isn't a stand-alone.

I originally purchased the first book in this series as a distraction on a long plane flight. I'm so happy I did! The series has turned into a fantastic bit of world building, and a hilarious and interesting read. This book does an admirable job of moving the story along while providing a fun and exciting vignette.

This short story feels as though it should be part of a main book. Its an amusing read that i enjoyed. Except that there are a number of small but important bits that happen that could have an impact on the main storyline.

One of my only gripes is something that has bugged me for awhile, that is the stones power. We get told over and over how it is supposed to increase a mages power exponentially but i never see it. This story is a perfect example.

All is all its a dollar for a nice quick read to pass some time.

Nice side story Terry, but bring on the MageLord book already!

This short story picks up right where WarMage left off. It's a must read for fans of the series, but new readers should probably start with one of the other two books in order to appreciate it.
