This solar charge controller comes with Bluetooth and is a bit higher in price than the competition, but for good reason. Victron makes high quality products and backs them up with a 5-year warranty and support. You can adjust the amount of power it delivers to your batteries too. I have 800w of panels in a somewhat low light area and I'm able to bring in a solid 430w of power at the 15A charge setting (max for this controller) even in low light. Just don't go over the Voltage rating. 100V is a HARD limit, meaning if you surpass it, it will damage the controller. I'll need to upgrade it soon so I can get all the available power from my panels. I also love the integration between the different products and the open source nature of the company. The fact I can use a Raspberry Pi to run Victron's Venus OS and any good quality USB to TTY serial adapter to connect it all is a HUGE win for Victron. The phone app is also well designed and they even offer free logging of your data to their VRM web portal. I'll be coming back to Victron for more stuff in the near future.

Victron makes excellent charge controllers. I upgraded from a BlueSolar to a SmartSolar for the added Bluetooth feature. It’s a really nice, reliable piece of hardware. Definitely worth spending a little money more to get a high quality controller with a ton of resources support behind it. My old Blue ran for over a year straight, harvesting about 1KW every day, with no issues. Reglar firmware updates only make these controllers better and better. If you want to see what it’s up to, the app works perfectly in iOS and provides lots of useful insight.

Other buyers report packaging issues, but my 100/15 arrived unused, unopened, and in perfect condition.

Major flaws in the Victron MPPT that make them unusable in many situations

For more than twice the cost of other comparable units I expected a lot from Victron Energy MPPT. Unfortunately, the flaws in designs make this unit---and assume other VE MPPT as well because they use the software---unusable in many situations.

The system is so overengineered it makes you wonder if its made for consumers at all. Here, I will just focus on two major ones that basically render the Victron Energy MPPT useless. I have attached a short video to illustrate them.

The VE engineers believe the charging voltage must be 5V above the battery otherwise its pointless. So in everyday use, quite often their algorithm SmartSolar doesn't open the solar charging until 3-4 hours after the sunrise; the solar energy shows 0W more than 30% during the day and I am in southern Ca, the sunlight capital of the country. I don't care how smart VE engineers sound, that is a lot of energy to waste!

The second major flaw is that VE SmartSolar algorithm thinks that if the load goes from 1W to 5W the whole output needs to be reset, so it turns off the load for 1 sec and reboot the output, and now my mini computer system and wifi network that are powered by VE controller just lose their power and connection. Yeah, I am sure those VE engineers will come up with a 100 reasons why rebooting is a good idea, but I don't care, because in practice I just cannot use a system that constantly cuts power to my critical equipments.

BTW, those flaws are NOT setup related because I have gone thru all the settings.

Other annoyances include there are no quick setup diagram or manual; it comes with a fine print dictionary size booklet you are supposed to read thru and understand the engineering genius behind the design. Seriously, in this day and age, why cannot a manufacture with so much resources and charging so much for their products devote a little bit effort in making setup steps intuitive for new users. And the battery current display has two digits after the decimal which is in A, but in reality only 0.1A shows, the second digit is always zero. So the precision VE MPPT claims is not really there. I never know if my system is drawing 0.11A or 0.19A, for example, because it doesn't show. So if you want to calculate the power consumption to design your solar system you cannot get it from VE MPPT.

Best Charge Controller I've used

I've been through many charge controllers in my time, but this one has been the most efficient one so far. I have used cheap ones and expensive ones. One of the main issues with the cheap ones is that they shutdown if the voltage varies too much. The Bluetooth function has been very useful in tracking my battery levels. I'm looking at possibly upgrading many of my other controllers with these.

Good little MPPT Controller. Doesn't fit 10AWG Ferrules :-(

This is a good little MPPT Controller, Bluetooth, efficient and does what it's supposed to do . It also has a Load Output to prevent from draining your battery flat. My only gripe is the specs say the terminals can accept 10AWG or 6mm2. While a bare, stranded 10AWG wire will fit, if you use Ferrules, it will not fit in the terminal. The largest wire this controller will take with a Ferrule installed is about 12AWG. I use Ferrules on ALL connections that use a clamp down terminal. I never allow bare strand wire to be clamped down by the terminal. If you do this, it will smash the wire, spreading it apart, and not allow for a secure connection. Yes, it will work but, with the amount of vibration in a Boat or RV, the use of Ferrules will make for a more secure connection. I returned the 100-15 and purchased a 100-30 Smart Solar MPPT. The 100-30 is the smallest Controller that will accept 6AWG Ferrules. I use 4AWG wire and crimp on 6AWG Ferrules. Works perfect and when cut apart to inspect, the copper is so tight, it's almost welded together from the amount of force the ferrules crimp down. FYI, the wire and crimp tools I use are from TemCo. While this controller doesn't need anything bigger than 12AWG wire, I always oversize my conductors for low loss and room for expansion (Future Proofed). Hope this helps someone make the proper choice for their application.

Work’s brilliantly, app is stable, does more
Works better than supplied charger.
And with my existing Solar panels squeezed every watt out. With the excess power I used 2 old batteries I didn’t think worked any longer
But I was wrong and have been happily running a old camping fridge.
When bench tests were completed it’s now a case of connect & forget. Both versions are good and do the job but I prefer the Bluetooth version
