Product Description
Product Description
Vidal Sassoon is more than just a hairdresser - he's a rock star, an artist, a craftsman who changed the world with a pair of scissors. With the geometric, Bauhaus-inspired hairdos he pioneered in the 1960s and his wash and wear philosophy that liberated generations of women from the tyranny of the salon, Sassoon revolutionized the art of hairstyling and left an indelible mark on popular culture. This documentary traces with visual gusto the life of a self-made man whose passion and perseverance took him from an orphanage in London to the absolute pinnacle of his craft.

And here I thought Vidal Sassoon was just a hair dresser. A fascinating story about a guy with a vision and dream who fought like hell to make it happen. The phrase paradigm shift has been over used, but most certainly applies in his case. A movie every entrepreneur should watch.

I love this movie and as a previous employee and student, this is the excitement and intensity we had in the salons. Anytime I have a really bad day, I will pop the movie and the positive message of Vidal's life really kicks me in the rear and into gear. Sounds flaky but it's all true. Fantastic movie.

But there is something absolutely fascinating about this movie. I've seen it twice already and keep going back to replay various bits. I first found it on Netflix, but their license expired and I was left wanting to see it again. When I found it on Amazon VOD for $10, I couldn't resist. Great little documentary for anyone interested in hair styling trends or even just a great underdog story.

My family owned a salon in New York since 1936. Sassoon and his brilliant flare for style brought a new day to the industry. This movie makes it apparent that he was truly worthy of our admiration as a business icon. Don't miss it.

I"m a new stylist and while learning, one hears the name Vidal Sassoon qite a bit. It was great to get a deeper perspective on Vidal's history and on the development of his drive, passion, art and buisness sense. It explains why he is referred to as an "Icon", "Industry Leader" "Visionary".

Hair today, now gone alas...

Of course I knew of him, I am of an age that recognises iconic people from the sixties, but, to my undying shame, I really knew nothing about him. I recently had read his book 'Vidal', and as a direct result of this film getting a mention towards the end, I had to buy it and actually see the man, warts and all. The film lived up to everything I hoped it would be. I am not a hairdresser by any stretch of the imagination, but as others mention, this man is a classic inspiration to anyone that wants to try anything. His fitness regime is enviable, possibly too late for me, but still a marvel to behold. An excellent, documentary, filmic biography of a legend, recommended viewing.

I'm a hairdressing student, and Vidal's name crops up a lot in lessons. My teacher used to work in one of his salons and so I bought the DVD.
Awe inspiring Vidal comes from a poor Jewish family and spent part of his childhood in an orphanage. The film is his take on his own life, compiled under his own instruction and is fascinating to watch. He gives numerous interviews, using his vital charisma and enigmatic capacity to draw the viewer into his world of wealth, fame and success.
I will watch it over and over, he shares his ambitions, his successes alongside his failings in a manner that is refreshing to see.
Like other celebrities, he has a healthy lifestyle and I was awed to see how much swimming, yoga and how well he ate to keep in shape. He and his ex wife published a healthy living book in the seventies, to share their positive mantra of healthy lifestyle choices.
A lot to take in; but a bargain for anyone - not just hairdressers. What a nice guy.
