I just received this projector two days ago. Prior to this purchase I have owned two separate name brand DLP Projectors, an Acer and a view sonic. Both suffered failure of the color wheel after about two years. Since the parts only available from shippers in China, I did not feel comfortable taking a chance and spending close to $100 trying to repair them. This projector seemed perfect. When I tried to set it up and use it yesterday morning, I was immediately frustrated because the image was projecting larger than my screen and I could not see anyway to adjust the image size. The dimensions of my room leave me with no other options. I went back and read the instructions and saw that if I pushed the left and right arrows on the remote when on the focus setting, the screen size would change. This solved all my problems, and I was able to size it to perfectly fit my screen. I don't use the projector for sound, but the sound coming out of it was of decent quality and loud enough - just not as good as the surround speakers I use. The picture quality was great. The manual focus made it easy to get the maximum image quality. The manual keystone correction works great and allows the unit be placed at an angle and still produce a square image. It is much better than that of the two DLP projectors I owned. The unit powers on and off almost immediately. There are two HDMI inputs which makes connection to a computer or really any source a breeze. I have not tested the USB ports since I won't use them. For me, the dual HDMI is ideal. The remote is kind of a mixed bag. It uses 2 AAA batteries so it works better than the ones that use small lithium batteries. I found, though that the remote need to be in front of the projector to work perfectly. The menu and the settings are also not intuitive and are somewhat confusing. The menu button on the remote is merely labeled "M" instead of menu. I am unsure what most of the buttons do. The zoom button makes the image larger, but there is not a corresponding button to make it smaller. None of this really matters though since the size is easy to adjust within the menu settings. It is also easy to set the screen layout at 4:3 or 16:9, and to adjust the color and other visual settings. With my computer, at some resolutions, the top, bottom, left or right of the computer image can be cut off. This can be corrected through the computer, but with my other projectors I was able to adjust the height and width of the image on the projector as well. I may be able to do the same here but I don't know how yet and I was unable to find a clear setting that would let me do that. I always loved the image quality of the DLP projectors I had compared to LED Tvs. The image from this projector is just as good, and probably clearer due to the high native resolution. I have not yet fine tuned it, but still find the picture quality to be outstanding for movies or tv. It is even functional for web browsing at a distance of 12 feet. The biggest negative with this projector is that the fan is extremely loud. However, I found that even in the small enclosed room that I use it, it was not a distraction and as long as I had the sound for whatever I was watching at a moderate level, didn't even bother me. After 3 1/2 hours of continuous use, I turned it off and felt it to see how hot it had gotten. The unit was still relatively cool to the touch. Since heat will destroy these units I am okay with a loud fan if it lasts longer. The unit is quite large which could be a negative. It barely fits on the shelf I have it on. Since I can easily adjust the image size and keystone, I may try out mounting it in a different manner either with a wall mount or a ceiling mount.
Another thing to remember is that there is no setting on this projector to adjust distance like the high priced projectors have so if you are buying this to replace another type of projector just remember that you will probably end up having to move your projector location so that it will fit your screen if you are using one. The keystone correction is not software driven but is adjusted with a knob on the back of the unit so that may also be a little different than what you may be use to.
The brightness of the picture and clarity of the picture is very good, actually amazed me that it is this good for the price. Will this compete with a $600 projector, No, but pretty darn close for a true 1080p projector that costs half that and doesn't use those expensive high discharge bulbs. I can see the picture very well even with the lights in the room on.
I have only had this a day so I can't say how well the build quality and the LED bulb life will be, time will tell, but I have already been through 4 DLP projectors and numerous bulb changes and failures of the DLP chips with the mirrors locking in the on or off positions so you have a bunch of white or black pixels on the screen so I'm crossing my fingers that this one will beat all those other projectors.
If anyone has any questions on this before they decide to buy one don't hesitate to ask and I will try to answer what I can.
