I have used Video Hound for years; their quality and coverage are excellent. Although I like Roger Ebert and Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) better as reviewers, this is the best compilation of reviews available (the Maltin book is hard to use, of poor quality, and generally the reviews are less accurate and thoughtful). The web site that goes with the book is fabulous and allows searches and lists. Together they make an unbeatable resource.

This is an invaluable resource for any movie lover. I get a new edition every year and pass the previous one to my friends, who are delighted to get it. If you've ever watched a movie on TV and couldn't remember, "What other movies did this director make?" or "In what other movies have I seen this actor?" OR "For which other movies did this composer write music?" etc,. you can look it up here. It has a Categories Index if you can't remember the title of a film, an Awards index if you want to know who won the Oscar any given year, and every film is reviewed and rated; plus, it tells you if a film is available on DVD, videotape, or both, and its length, year of release, country of origin, language, subtitles, etc. LOVE IT!!!

Video Hound is the best way yet to evaluate a movie before buying or renting it. I am impressed by the multiple ways to search - actors, material content, category, rating, etc. No negative aspects except that many good foreign movies are excluded, and you need a new version every couple of years to keep up with newer films.

I buy the VideoHound's Golden Movie Retriever every single year. My two sons each buy their own. We have never found a more comprehensive guide to movies. If they ever stop making this book, we will be very disappointed!

This is the 4th Videohound book that I have purchased over the past 10 years. The information is presented in short, sweet, concise paragraphs that cut straight to the point. The greatest feature of the Videohound books is the cross-reference ability. This book has settled many an argument in my house about the year of a film or who was in it. A must have if you live with a trivia buff. Excellent for finding obscure films that you didn't know were hiding out there somewhere. Well worth the money, an excellent gift for that hard to buy for person.

Our 2004 edition of the Video Hound needed updating, so we purchased the 2009 edition. "It simply doesn't get any better than this." The quote from the Library Journal on the cover of the volume is accurate. Not only is there info on all the movies available on video cassette and DVD, there are lists of award winners, directors, writers, casts of all the movies in the volume, among other lists. Very useful for crossword puzzle solvers. We use the 2009 Video Hound every day, either to look up who was in a movie, what the editors thought of a certain movie, or to check out a crossword puzzle clue. A great product, I don't know how folks who watch movies, even just occasionally, get along without it.

We have been purchasing/using the Videohound's Golden Retriever movie guide for many years. The 2009 guide has not disappointed us. There are, as always, several different cross-references for practically any movie you can think of (as long as it was released to DVD/VHS when the guide was published). You can, of course, look up a movie by title; if you can remember an actor that was in it, but not the title, then you can look it up that way. Curious about an actor's body of work? Look him/her up in the actor's index--there's a complete, dated list of his work (there are also indices for directors, writers, cinematographers and composers). Or you can look up movies by categories. If you need even more information, there's also a lengthy list of movie websites. If you love movies (and movie trivia), this is the book for you.

The wife and I have had the current copy of this movie review book now for the last 10 years. It's definitely the best book we have found for accurate movie reviews and information.
