About the author

Uyen Luu is a food photographer and cook book author. She trained in fine art film and video at Central St Martins. Uyen hosts a Vietnamese supper club in her East London studio where she cooks dishes she learned from her mother. Uyen also teaches Vietnamese cookery.
Her debut book, My Vietnamese Kitchen was published by Ryland Peters & Small in 2013
Her latest book Vietnamese is published by Hardie Grant 2021

The book is gorgeous, soft colours and beautiful pictures. The recipes are homey, easy and full of comforting flavours I grew up with. I like the tips, the substitutions, the dinner party ideas, and that the measurements are in metric system (with imperial "translation") :)
The introduction brought me to tears. It brought back so many loving memories of moments I took for granted growing up. My Vietnamese grand-mother passed away late December 2020 and I remember every time we went to visit her, no matter what time of the day (morning or afternoon) she would welcome us with “there’s rice ready if you’re hungry” 😅.

This book includes an overview of the principles of Vietnamese cooking, culture, and how the recipes tie them together.
The instructions are clear, the photos are beautiful, and most importantly the food, once made is delicious.
I've made the Marmelade Mustard Ribs, Bun Cha, fried greens & noodles and more all to my family's enjoyment!!
If you want to expand your cooking knowledge, or "travel" via cooking, this book is the perfect journey.
I've made 3 dishes this month and my family loves it. The kids especially love making their own spring rolls at the table. Start with the Lemon and Ginger Chicken and keep going!

I love Vietnamese food and have a few books on it but this is the best by a long way. Not had the book long, but what I've cooked from it so far has turned out amazing, full of flavour and tasting so fresh.! I've made the Ginger Chicken, super flavourful and all from a few easy to find ingredients, was not sure about leaving the skin on the chicken as I only usually like it when it's crispy from a roast chicken, but I thought i'd follow the recipe as is and I'm glad I did, it worked really well.
I’ve also made the seafood spring rolls, amazing! Not a parsnip fan in general which these contain but they really work in these, highly recommended.
The Sticky Marmalade and Mustard ribs, one word - YUM!
The Vietnamese Baguette recipe I can't wait to try and use for Bánh Mì, I made a lot of baguettes last year during lock down looking for the perfect one, this one looks really good :-)
Of course, Phò' has to be attempted, always wanted to make it myself and both the Beef and Chicken ones in this look superb
It really is one of those books where i want to cook everything, the photos are so inviting and the whole thing is written really well too.

I love Vietnamese food and have a few books on it but this is the best by a long way. The recipes found in this book are not so, they are easy to make and contain many staple ingredients. Instructions are easy to follow and pictures are clear. I am very happy with this purchase and will be using it a lot more in the future!
