What is an IPS Panel?
IPS (in-plane switching) technology is the highest performance panel technology available in the LCD displays. The specifications and details of IPS panel technology are considered best for high accuracy in color, contrast and wide viewing angles. IPS panels offer excellent picture reproduction and suitable for photography, graphics design, movie production, CAD/CAM engineering, medical and security applications. Illustrations below represent how an image on your screen will look even at extreme viewing angles of up to 178°. With IPS panels, you will not have any color shift or changes in the contrast ratio when you move the image across the screen or change your viewing angle.
What is a LED monitor?
The term "LED monitor" generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In an LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source. Environmentally friendly LED backlights provide the following benefits:
- About 50%* less power consumption compared to traditional CCFL monitor
- 20,000,000:1 MEGA Dynamic Contrast Ratio
- Environmentally friendly mercury-free backlight
- Low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference)
- Slimmer design
- Weight reduction
Brilliant color performance
The VP2770-LED delivers professional grade color accuracy, with support for up to 1.07 billion colors with Dual-Link DVI and DisplayPort. For the most demanding color critical applications, the VP2770-LED is also fully compatible with the latest 3rd party calibrators on the market.
Designed with professional needs in mind, every VP2770-LED has sRGB pre-tuned with an average Delta-E (de) less than 3. Every VP2770-LED will deliver superior color performance right out of the box!
Designed with professionals in mind
From 27” widescreen IPS panel to 2560x1440 resolution, from 90° pivot to height adjust function, from wide range of input options to 4-port USB hub, from Eco-mode to VESA mounts, the VP2770-LED is designed with one thing in mind: to serve the needs of professional users and consumers.
Some of the applications where the VP2770-LED can be a perfect solution:
- Graphics design
- Movie production
- CAD/CAM engineering
- Financial sector applications
Eco-mode for up to 40%* energy savings
ViewSonic’s proprietary Eco-mode function comes standard with the VP2770-LED. When you don’t need all of the powerful features the VP2770-LED has to offer, you have the option to reduce the monitor’s brightness, save energy, save the planet and prolong the lamp life. You can select one of the “Optimize” or “Conserve” options and save up to 35%* energy. Especially under low ambient light conditions, adjusting the brightness will improve visibility by reducing eye fatigue. Reducing brightness will also prolong the monitor’s lamp life, improving your return on investment.
*Energy savings may vary based on actual usage and other factors.
Efficiency and comfort
Ergonomics is defined as the profession of designing tools and work environments to best accommodate human performance and behavior. The VP2770-LED is one of the great examples of an ergonomically designed tool. Based on your height, chair and desk conditions, you can adjust it up and down for 5.3 inches, swivel it 360°, or tilt it 20° degrees, whatever makes you more comfortable.
Also, when designing a portrait mode image or a document (such as a flyer or a magazine page), you can rotate the monitor 90° and utilize your 27” screen size at its full extent. You can also adjust your graphics card settings so that all your graphics are rotated 90 as well
Wide Quad HD Resolution
VP2770-LED features a 27” widescreen with 2560x1440 resolution that is capable of displaying true HD content, in it’s native 16:9 aspect ratio. At 4 times the resolution of a traditional 720p panel, and almost double that of a traditional 1080p display, WQHD results in a much sharper image, with no distortion or stretching, all while maintaining the same 16:9 aspect ratio. With a 16:9 aspect ratio panel, you will get the most out of your HD content since HD contents are natively designed in this format.
VESA mount and multi-monitor setup
Designing a professional grade monitor is not easy. We need to understand the needs of our professional users as well as their most common usage patterns. For those who plan to install VP2770-LED on a monitor stand for multi monitor setups or wall mount it, we included 100mm x 100mm VESA mount holes in the back. You can detach the base easily by unscrewing four screws and then mount the display on its new stand or wall mount.
Another critical element for multi monitor setups is the bezel design. We made sure that VP2770-LED features a thin bezel so that when you tile two, three, four or more monitors together, you have minimum lost space between them.
Industry leading pixel performance guarantee and 3 year limited warranty
One of the aspects that make ViewSonic a market leader in displays is its commitment to quality. LCD panels are produced in factories and as everything else, they may have flaws too. One of the flaws of an LCD panel is a dead pixel, bright or dark. Some panels will have no dead pixels while others will have one or two or more. When LCD display manufacturers build their monitors, they will have the option to use different grade panels with different tolerance levels for numbers of dead pixels. ViewSonic is committed to use the highest grade panels and offer the best pixel performance policy in the market. We also back our displays with 3-year limited warranty for your peace of mind.
The VP2770-LED features three video inputs, Dual HDMI and VGA. You can connect three different sources at the same time and then toggle from one to another by selecting the input source through the On-Screen-Display (OSD). You can connect headphones to the audio-out port for privacy. Or connect your external speakers for direct play of the HDMI audio source.
Save Cash and Save the Planet
With its mercury free backlight and low energy consumption, the ENERGY STAR 5.0 certified VP2770-LED is not only environmentally friendly but also friendly on your electricity bill as well. This can add up to thousands of dollars saved for large install bases, such as big corporate buildings or schools, the savings can be as dramatic as $20,000* in five years!

Viewsonic vs Asus:
1) VP2770 Color is excellent and well balanced out of the box. This is due to Professional factory calibrated colours. Asus does not have factory calibrated colours. Color is over saturated, especially blue. No matter how I manually adjusted Asus, Viewsonic looks better in general.
2) Asus displayport has an issue with monitor sleep where it won't wake up from monitor sleep(see update below). PC S4 sleep state works fine but not monitor sleep. I tried so many displayport cables. I even opened up the cable head and make sure pin 20 is disconnected, per displayport spec. Viewsonic displayport wakes up fine with either monitor sleep or PC state S4 sleep.
3) Asus HDMI supports 2560x1440 while viewsonic HDMI does not (see update below). So for Viewonic, use either displayport or DVI. For Asus, use either HDMI or DVI. you can use asus displayport for 2560x1440 if you can deal with sleep issue.
4) Viewsonic white is warmer, toward tint, while asus white is cooler, toward blueish.
5) I like Asus physical button better viewsonic touch button. touch button is a pain to use in a low light room.Read more ›
I've also had the opportunity to use a Dell U2713HM and it also suffered from ugly crosshatching due to its AG coating and massive backlight bleed, again, not worth the premium Dell charges given the shoddy quality. I've also read about image burn in with the Dell U2713HM so that was enough to make me steer clear of Dell.
Now on to the Viewsonic: This thing screams quality from the packaging to the housing to the actual display quality.
Box: Large box with excellent packaging to keep the display safe from delivery abuse.
Calibrated from the factory: Upon unboxing it, you are greeted with a calibration report from the factory with the delta E values (<3) and the corresponding curves--NICE!
Build quality: The Viewsonic branding is barely even visible on the front of the display, its a nice black matte finish with touch controls. The stand is fairly large and very durable with the base made of metal.
Picture quality: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!Read more ›
I then went to TFT Central, where I read a very thorough review of this monitor. They mentioned that the monitor comes factory pre-set at 100% brightness, with a luminance of 300 cd/m2, which they said was far too bright. They recommended setting the brightness down to 18%, which would bring the luminance to 121 cd/m2, which they consider optimal. A setting of 18% seemed very radical to me, and I had severe doubts, but I tried it, and after only a few seconds, it seemed just perfect, and still does. My eyes no longer hurt, and my girlfriend agrees that it looks "just right" now. Also, that setting also resulted in the elimination of my backlight bleedthrough problem. That single adjustment has resulted in a perfect monitor for me. So please keep this in mind, as I was considering returning the monitor because of this.
My previous monitor was a Samsung T240, which was capable of "only" 1920 x 1200, so I was worried that the jump up to this 2560 x 1440 monitor would be too much for my GTX570 video card to handle as far as gaming.Read more ›
