What is a LED monitor?
The term "LED monitor" generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In an LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source. Environmentally friendly LED backlights provide the following benefits:
- About 40%* less power consumption compared to traditional CCFL monitor
- 10,000,000:1 MEGA Dynamic Contrast Ratio
- Environmentally friendly mercury-free backlight
- Low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference)
- Slimmer design
- Weight reduction
The Power of Connectivity
HDMI is one of the most powerful and widely available communication standards that connects digital audio/video sources such as set-top boxes, DVD players, personal computers (PCs, laptops), video game consoles such as the PlayStation3 and XBOX 360, and AV receivers to compatible digital audio devices, computer monitors, and digital televisions. This powerful technology comes standard in VX2703mh-LED. This way, you can connect your monitor to your desktop or laptop computer and work, surf the web or play games. Or you can connect it to your gaming console and enjoy the large 27” screen, 3ms response time and integrated speakers. In addition, the VX2703mh-LED also includes traditional DVI and VGA inputs, so you can connect up to three different sources all at the same time and easily toggle from one source to
Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio
One of the great features of VX703mh-LED is its ability to dim the backlight completely for pure darkness during dark scenes such as a night shot in a movie. Contrast ratios refer to the ratio of the brightest color to the darkest color. With traditional CCFL backlit displays, contrast ratios are limited to the fluorescent lamp’s ability to dim in order to reproduce darkness. However, with the LED backlight, each LED has the ability to completely shut off allowing for a near infinite ratio of black to white contrast. The end result is true blacks that result in greater overall image quality.
Full HD 1080p Resolution
The VX2703mh-LED features a 27" widescreen with 1920x1080 resolution is capable of displaying a native Full HD 1080p image. Today, devices that can display Full HD content output are getting more and more common. However, without a native Full HD display, you will not be able to experience the picture clarity and the details of the 1080p content you view.
Pair it with a ViewSonic or Mac computer
One of the key advantages of the VX2703mh-LED monitor is its diverse connectivity options, making it flexible to be paired with a PC or a Mac computer. Now you can hook up any Viewsonic PC as well as a MacBook or a Mac Mini to the VX203mh-LED and enjoy widescreen with LED backlight!
The VX2703mh-LED features a 100mm x 100mm VESA mountable design that allows you to mount it on a monitor stand or on a wall, depending on your specific needs. You can detach the base easily by unscrewing four screws and then mounting the display on its new stand or wall mount.
ViewSonic’s proprietary Eco-mode function comes standard with the VX2703mh-LED. When you don’t need all of the powerful features the VX2703mh-LED has to offer, you have the option to reduce the monitor’s brightness, save energy, save the planet and prolong the lamp life. You can select one of the “Optimize” or “Conserve” options and save up to 35%* energy. Especially under low ambient light conditions, adjusting the brightness will improve visibility by reducing eye fatigue. Reducing brightness will also prolong the monitor’s lamp life, improving your return on investment. *Energy savings may vary based on actual usage and other factors.
Save Cash and Save the Planet
With its mercury free backlight and low energy consumption, the ENERGY STAR 5.0 certified VX2703mh-LED is not only environmentally friendly but also friendly on your electricity bill as well. Industry leading pixel performance guarantee and 3 year limited warranty
One of the aspects that make ViewSonic a market leader in displays is its commitment to quality. LCD panels are produced in factories and as everything else, they may have flaws too. One of the flaws of an LCD panel is a dead pixel, bright or dark. Some panels will have no dead pixels while others will have one or two or more. When LCD display manufacturers build their monitors, they will have the option to use different grade panels with different tolerance levels for numbers of dead pixels. ViewSonic is committed to use the highest grade panels and offer one of the best pixel performance policy in the market. We also back our displays with 3-year limited warranty for your peace of mind.

When I connected the replacement, the monitor was flickering on and off with some bleeding in the corner. I called them immediate and they asked that ship it back again. This time, they provided a prepaid shipping label. Another three weeks and I receive the "fixed" monitor back. It lasted about 3 days until the flickering started again. I tested it with different cables and on different laptops other than my desktop to rule out a graphics card or cable issue. Two days after the flickering, the monitor have no display. The power light goes on indicating there is power, but the screen is still black.
Another call to ViewSonic who asked me the ship it back again, but this time they want me to do it again at my cost. I refused and and said they need to provide me with prepaid label again and that I am not interested in receiving a 4th ViewSonic monitor and that I want a refund now. This has been escalated to management now. I am not holding my breath to either get a refund or working monitor anymore and will just have to write of the about $300 this monitor costed me so far and will get a monitor from another manufacturer.
I know that sometimes that somethign will go wrong with any new things, but they way ViewSonic has been handling the repairs and now that is the 3rd time I have to ship the monitor back is really not acceptable and I will never purchase another ViewSonic product again and I would never recommend this to anyone else.
I am not using the embedded speakers so I will not comment on that aspect of the device. Though from a desk efficiency standpoint using an HDMI cable from your video card (if it is so equipped) and you'll save the need for a few cables and perhaps some hardware on the desk if you are in a production or office environment. If you are a gamer or wanting that punch of sound, you know you'll need your own special brand of geekdom for audio.
The ONLY thing that is keeping me from giving this a 5 star rating is the lack of any USB ports. Now-a-days it seems we have a lot of USB connection needs and having a port of two or three on the monitor underside or side of the bezel would be optimal. This way you can have quick access for thumb-drives and stuff like webcams. Its not a huge complaint (not by a long shot). But I would certainly have spent a few dollars more for a monitor with these features.
I'm also using a wall mount with VESA100 alignment so it's up off the desk. That was a huge selling point for me on this model (the VESA mount holes).
Again overall 4 stars. Performance so far is stellar and I think for your tech dollar this is a very good buy.
I added this VX2703 to my existing system that already had a VA2703. The VA2703 is a SVGA (and dvi) and has stunning color reproduction while being able to provide DEEP black. I had no reason to think the VX2703 would be much different - but it is. I needed to get the VX because it has HDMI and I wanted to add a second monitor to my Lenovo Q190 which has a SVGA and a HDMI port and no room to add a card. I didn't want to mess around with a video splitter so I ordered the HDMI version of the monitor. Sitting right next to the VA2703, the VX looked totally washed out (very bright). I went to the contrast and brightness settings of both monitors and set the new one to match the old (contrast of 87, brightness of 0), and color set to Native. The black of the new monitor still looked grey, and the color was quite muted. After a lot of adjusting, I have it as good as I can get, but the black is still a dark grey. I have the contrast down to 10 and the brightness at 88. I can make the black darker, but then I lose a lot of color.
I have 3 Lenovo Q190s in my house ( I love those little guys ) and the other 2 have HDMI monitors on them and none of them have a problem getting the black to be black.
I connected my computer to my monitor by HDMI cable and then audio out to a pair of Bose speakers I had lying around. I like to spin the monitor to portrait while working on documents. My wife is jealous.
I had a configuration question and contacted ViewSonic. They were helpful and got me the answer I needed.
