First some pro's with the monitor in general.
Easy to assemble stand while it is still in the box. This was a nice touch and made the setup nice. There are 2 pieces to the bracket, note there is NO VESA mount and no possible way to mount it other than the included stand. The stand is Metal both pieces and feels very sturdy.
2 HDMI and 2 DP ports I am unsure of the HDMI spec as I only used DP. The ports go straight out the back and they felt "snug" no wiggle.
Easy to navigate menu system with "joystick" style on back right side.
No Vesa Mount, no rotation, only very limited tilt up/down.
Dead pixels on arrival picture below this appears to be more than one and is very obvious I hadn't even started looking for them when I saw the black spot on a web browser.
VERY poor response time. This is something I normally always look for but because it is completely omitted from the description I didn't think to find out what the response time was. The 144hz had partially fooled me into thinking this would be a a "gaming" monitor with very low sub 4 ms response time. The default response is a HORRID 22 ms and some sort of "overclock" to reduce it to 5ms. It is very obvious just from moving apps and windows around on the screen. The refresh rate may be listed at 144hz but there are problems here too.
I have a EVGA 1080 ti, FTW3 video card, more than enough to drive this monitor for anything. The monitor native settings in windows was 2560x1440 at 144hz. After about 1 hour i noticed a flicking on any windows/apps I had open on the monitor. I did attempt to video this but even my phone at 60 fps wasn't able to properly record it but it is VERY obvious. I spent 20 minutes adjusting options in the monitor menu and it never changed. I swapped cables and rebooted, after reboot the flickering went away but came back within a couple minutes. It seems to be an issue after the monitor "warms" up. As a last ditch I lowered the refresh rate from 144hz to 120hz and the flickering stopped.
Overall I would avoid this monitor, the reviews on Amazon are very high but if you filter for the monitor only there are almost no reviews, there were only 2 when I searched today. This is something that Amazon needs to address I felt betrayed by the review system as it stands with very high "stars" but they include multiple items that are completely un-related and there should not be any cross over, in my opinion, of reviews of this product or any product.
I failed to do my due diligence when I bought this monitor as I was trying to beat a shipping window when I found it for what is by far the cheapest price of a 32" 144hz Curved monitor my price of $379. The next closest is $429 and $479 and it goes up over $500 from there.
I filed for RMA for this monitor.
Regarding refresh rate:
As long as you have a powerful enough graphics card (you must research this first), and HDMI 1.4 or 2.0, and your PC recognizes this monitor (via installing drivers), then it should definitely display the 144hz for you. I had been using integrated graphics on an older PC, and it wouldn't output higher than 60Hz... but once I installed my GTX 1060 6GB card on my new PC, it instantly displayed at 144hz. And for ANYONE who claims that 144Hz is overkill unless you're a serious gamer, I have news for you: 144hz LOOKS WAY NICER, EVEN IF YOU AREN'T A GAMER. I had been using 60Hz forever, and the difference was immediate. I feel less eye strain for sure, and I definitely notice silky smooth mouse movements and scrolling. So if you're teetering on the fence about the 75hz model vs 144hz, I'd recommend just going for 144hz. Especially if you spend long hours in front of your screen.
Regarding response time:
DO NOT pay attention to the "most helpful poor review" here claiming that this monitor has an incorrectly advertised response rate. There is no false advertising about its advertised 5ms response time. However, its TYPICAL response time is actually 21ms (and they don't lie about this either; it's directly in the specifications), and that is what it is defaulted to. So if you want the 5ms response time, simply go into the settings on the monitor and change the Response Time to "ultra fast." There are 3 speeds, and "normal" is the slowest, at 21ms.
They're decent, but if you're planning on routing the audio from either the line-in or headphone jack, be aware that it doesn't have a strong output -- I had to max the speaker volume to get much sound out of it. Probably better to get your sound from elsewhere.
I'm not experienced in monitors, so I don' have much to compare this to in terms of objective viewing experience quality, but as an average user, I can say that HD movies look amazing, and I've been playing my Nintendo Switch games on it beautifully. (And as I said earlier, the 144Hz for PC is a joy on the eyes -- but the Switch only goes up to 60Hz). The surface is a matte finish, and there is no glare because it has an anti-glare coating. The curve is pretty minor at 1800R, so you have to be fairly close to it in order to feel immersed in what you're watching, or games. Viewing angles are great... I haven't noticed myself having to re-position myself or the monitor due to the colors looking off.
Display options and versatility:
This is the monitor's strong point, by far. Maybe it's because I'm a nerd. I LOVE the variety of "view modes" that this monitor offers. There are a whopping 7 presets for viewing experiences, and 2 of those are "gaming" and "standard" which EACH have an additional 5-6 features for custom display features. Mostly, these have to do with contrast and black stabilization (making the blacks more black and whites more white). Speaking of contrast, this monitor's strong point is excellent contrast, since it uses MVA panel technology. It also offers tons of color options and presets too, including the blue light filter for easing eye strain. Also helpful to reduce eyestrain is the fact that the monitor utilizes DC backlighting rather than PWM, (it's "flicker-free") which minimizes eyestrain as well. These two features are part of its touted "eye care" technology.
Also worth noting, it arrived in perfect condition in a sealed box. Setup was ridiculously easy. The monitor cannot be raised or lowered any higher, and nope: there is no VESA mount on the back for this model.
I'll be updating this as I gain more experience and understanding about monitor technology, and my overall experience with it.
This is yet another example of confusion caused by listing multiple products in the same page.
AMAZON, please discontinue this practice!!!
I actually ended up cracking this monitor during a move. After being angry at myself, I ended up looking to replace it with the same monitor. During the life of the monitor, I had no major issues. The minor issues I had were that the "V" in the "Viewsonic" logo on the front fell off and there was one barely noticeable pixel that died in the bottom right-hand corner.
Other than those, I would have gladly kept this monitor until it died. It was a beautiful display. RIP VX3258.
Top reviews from other countries
Unfortunately this was my second monitor, the first one had dead pixels. This one out of the box had the screws over tightened on the back which cracked the back panel, 4 days into use, more dead pixels. Gutted, as the size and the 1440p and refresh rate is great. So this will be the second screen that is returned. It's embarrassing that Amazon still have it for sale. Avoid. Buy something else.
The only reason that it was a deal breaker for me was the lack of a Display port. Which is a great oversight on the part of Viewsonic. The 24 inch version has it, but and absent minded design chap must have been high and forgot to add one to this 27 inch version too. Which is why it is going straight back to France, where it has come from. Delivery time was not that great either, I think it took about 2 weeks to arrive. Which is a lot, come on mon amis, France is not that far away. I had much faster deliveries from China. And I am also asked to pay the return price, which I did not like. But that's all to do with the seller. I have called Amazon and they immediately agreed to pay the return postage on the behalf of the seller. They only asked me to pay the return costs and then send them the receipt, which they will reimburse straight away. As usual, flawless Amazon courtesy and customer service. Well done again...and again...and again Amazon!!!
