1. Some background info: I have two cpus (mac mini and macbook pro), but use the macbook pro 95% of the time and 100% of time for my foto related work (it's just that good and convenient). Nonetheless, it is useful to have a 2nd cpu and thus when my apple 21inch cinema display died, I knew I had to replace the monitor, but didn't really need a high end version.

2. With the above being said, this Viewsonic was an excellent choice for me for the following reasons: a) You can't be the price; a truly excellent value b) As others have said, it has a fair amount of plastics, but I don't necessarily view that as a negative; it's well built, slim and light. c) The set up is a no brainer; actually with the cables supplied, it's less clutter than my old apple cinema display.

3. In regards to quality, even though I purchased this monitor without any significant expectation in regards to quality, this monitor is really nice. Out of the box however, the results may look... off. However, with proper calibration (I have the xrite monitor calibrating device), the results are very good to excellent (as far as my nonscientific eyes can determine).

4. Thus, for most folks / purposes out there, you can't go wrong with the excellent monitor, especially for the price. Well done Viewsonic.

There are many positive reviews already. It is really a very nice monitor. Like many of you, I read many reviews looking for some key things that would help me make my decision in purchasing the right monitor for me. At the end, I did. Here are my two cents that I hope will help some people with their decision-making:
1. Moderately matte screen. Not reflective, yet bright, definitely not dull. Just right for me.
2. Piano-black bezel, yet somehow not reflective (unlike my Samsung) and not distracting, much to my relief.
3. The OSD is VERY easy to navigate, easiest among all the monitors I have used.
4. Switching between two inputs is a one-button operation by pressing one of the buttons (button #2, for those who have the monitor already). I read somewhere that you can only do so via OSD and takes few steps. That is not true.
5. Yes, you CAN display 1920x1080 via VGA. I read that someone had a problem with this. Me too at first (too lazy to install the driver, haha). Then I simply installed the driver and problem fixed. Don't just use the Windows driver.
6. At lower resolution (1366x768, 1600x900), it is still pretty clear. This was a very important consideration for me. Many / most LCD/LED monitors are not very clear at lower resolution even at the same aspect ratio, unlike the traditional CRT monitors. For my needs, due to some old software for my work that would not enlarge despite adjusting DPI via Window's Control Panel, I need to use the lower resolution setting (or risk severe eye strain). In my experience HP monitors are typically quite fuzzy/unclear fuzzy at lower resolution settings, even if the aspect ratio is maintained. Dell and Samsung are not bad, but not as good as Viewsonic. Older Acer LCD monitors were excellent in this regard, but somehow not the newer ones (even the same model, curiously).
7. As for the monitor wobbling when accessing the OSD buttons, it is not that big a problem for me. Fortunately, like most people, I do not need to utilize OSD much after initial purchase.
8. Great price/performance ratio.
I hope this helps some of you.

We bought 3 of these for our office. Since these are for general use in a financial office setting, we have no huge issues with these. However, from a technical point of view, there are some complaints:

1. The picture quality is good but not great. The pictures and text are not very crisp. Yes, we use native resolution, so that's not the problem. Something just seems slightly off.
2. The sound is also not great. It's better than the built-in speakers of the desktop, which really isn't saying much. But again, we are in an office, so sound is usually not a big need.
3. If you want to make manual adjustments on the monitor itself, the touch menu is just awful. Most computer monitors have horrible controls, so this is not a surprise. But these touch controls seem especially worse.

Size is good, picture clear, looks very nice. Its super thin and light. Blue power button is not distracting to me. Not a fan of the "buttons" for the menu, etc. they are just touch sensitive icons on the front lower bezel, suppose I'll get used to them. Come to think of it havent needed to use them since first day....dont yet know if I like the clear plastic frame at the lower edge of the screen, it's kinda "too much"/not necessary? Great price, was at my home in just a couple days. Used it to replace a 22 inch LCD that the light was failing in. Hope the LED technology proves to last longer. Absolutely no dead pixels on mine, colors /contrast are very nice. It was slightly too bright, and I adjusted the first day, perfect after that. Blacks are O.K. but it depends if looking directly at the front, if deviate to sides or up/down a little, they do show some wash or greyness at the edges (sides and upper/lower) I sit/view from approx. 2 to 3 ft. and find the resolution a little small for text (my old 22 used 1680x1050, this one using 1920x1080). Clear, but small. Also I have not compared any other monitors (besides my old one), I just purchased it going off Amazon reviews.
It's a good buy, don't hesitate or the price will go up. Cant imagine there are much better monitors out there in this price range. Don't know what kind of technology the future has in store, but if you need it now, I would not have any reservations recommending this monitor.

I bought this monitor last year. At first, it was great, and worked fine.

Less than 6 months in, it started acting funny. The monitor would randomly lose power and/or signal, only to regain signal a few moments later, or sometimes not at all until the computer was restarted.

The power loss is due to a sub-par quality power cord connection to the monitor. The cord is very loosely held in place and any vibration from the desk (such as typing) can cause the cord to move and the monitor to lose power, and you have to reach around the monitor and jiggle the power cord until it finds the sweet spot and the monitor comes back on.

But that's not the main problem. The main problem is it randomly losing signal. This happens on both DVI and VGA, and it is not a hardware problem as I have tested it with two different graphics cards, and my old VGA monitor has no trouble with either graphics card. At first it was relatively rare and only a minor annoyance, but as the months went on it got worse to the point that the monitor was virtually useless. It is currently just sitting on my desk as a paperweight.

I contacted Viewsonic customer support as this product has a a 3 year warranty (I am still within 1 year), but they have been dragging their feet for over 3 weeks and I have yet to even be issued an RMA # or be told what kind of replacement monitor I will be receiving. I told them I do not want this same model because I do not want to deal with this again if all of the units of this model have a high occurrence of this problem. They asked me what model I wanted, so I told them VX2270SMH-LED would be acceptable (A very similar monitor in terms of specs, which last time I checked was actually cheaper than this one on Amazon), but they told me they couldn't do that. I asked them what they could give me and they told me they will get back to me. That was 10 days ago.

Don't bother with this monitor or any other Viewsonic monitor. Don't waste your money and possibly time dealing with Viewsonic support. I think I might buy from the same company that made the 7 year old monitor I am currently typing this on that still works. I won't mention their brand name in order to remain unbiased in my review.

This is an awesome display. It's a steal for $160 or whatever the price is now. Beautiful to look at, and the monitor itself doesn't look too bad. I like the look.

If you need a new monitor and have $200 or so to spend, this is the way to go. I'm extremely glad I bought this instead of a $350 monitor with larger resolution. If anything, I may order another one of these LED screens.

The $200 I saved allowed me to buy a much nicer desktop than I expected: Gateway FX6840-55 Desktop (Black)

-- Update -- I used a DVI - HDMI connector ( 10FT / 3m HDMI TO DVI M/M CABLE ), and it looks about the same as the DVI. Both look great, anyway. I have been spotting problems with my own photos much more often now. This past weekend was spent working on some photos that I would never caught without this monitor. Bright, true color reproduction. Mine came set nicely, but a little too vivid.

Love it so far. I would recommend this monitor to anyone who likes good deals. Lots of return on your dollar here.

5/5

I think it's been a few years since I bought this. Still like brand new. Haven't noticed any pixel imperfections. I have a 42 inch HDTV and I swear games look and play better on this monitor compared to the TV.

Has been a while since I purchased a monitor and I wanted to get an LED monitor, 1080P, that had a clean, stable (not wobbly) design and internal speakers. I wanted something close to 22 inches, which is a good, large size, for my desk.
Bad news first, the speakers are really poor if you are going to use them to watch movies or anything beyond basic computing. I'm still glad that the monitor has them but have added some external speakers since the monitor purchase. The only other issue that bugs me is that I don't want to see the ViewSonic logo each time the monitor is powering up.

Now the good stuff. First, I really love the design of the monintor and quality of the picture/display. Although it doesn't swivel on the base, the monitor is light and easy to move. It is stable on the stand and attaches to the stand very easily with one bolt. I like the clean lines, including the touch menu (no standard buttons) and construction appears to be excellent quality. It was pretty much plug and play for me out of the box.

When I first watched DVD (not Blu-Ray) movies using the monitor, I thought they were a tiny bit grainy (and they were) but then discovered that true 1080P movies, clips from the web, were excellent. I realized that my DVD player was the limiting factor, as it must not output 1080P, and am going to upgrade by picking up an internal Blu-Ray player soon.

Bottom line: this is an excellent monitor. If it had been more expensive, I would have been more hesitant at purchasing it because I am less familiar with ViewSonic versus Samsung or LG: I have a Samsung LCD television which is superb. That said, I looked at the comparable Samsung and LG monitors and liked this one's design (including the fact that it had speakers) better.

As an update, one of my kids managed to destroy the speaker-jack on the front of my computer, requiring me to purchase a set of speakers that had a jack on the front.
The Cyber Acoustics CA-2022 2.0 were a perfect match for this monitor in color, style and soft blue glow of the power button. After five months of owning the monitor I still highly recommend it. These speakers also produce very good quality sound in the opinion of my slightly damaged hearing: Cyber Acoustics CA-2022 2.0 Computer Speakers- Black

I ordered two of these monitors to replace some older non LED monitors. I ordered them specifically because of:
* VERY Thin size
* VESA mount
* LED technology
* Removable foot
* HD 1080p support
* Price point
* Glowing Reviews
* Viewsonic Brand and warranty

When I received them I connected one to my Mac Book Pro (running Snow Leopard) and one to my custom PC. I did not need to install any drivers as they worked great out of the box. The only thing I did was to adjust the colors/contrast/brightness for each monitors specific purpose. Both monitors were perfect without any dead pixels (which was why I choose the Viewsonic brand) . After running both monitors for several weeks without many extended shutdown periods I can tell you that they both operate just like they came from the factory.

My technical usage is as follows:
* Video Editing
* Photo Editing
* Software development

I have both monitors on VESA supports and they work excellent in this configuration. I plan on purchasing at least two more of the 22" size and some of the 24" size just for my office desk area alone.

My connection to my computers uses the DVI connection on the monitors. I do not use the speakers as I have a much better set for my video editing work. The speakers being included was not even a factor in my decision, to me it's like including an extra power cord - nice - but I won't use it.

Bottom line - great monitor. I will be purchasing more for all the computers in my home and office.

One thing I noticed - this monitor jumps around alot on price and who it ships from and how much shipping is. I tracked this monitor for several weeks and I was able to get it at a very decent price. I noticed that there was over a $25 swing over the period I was tracking the monitor.
