A Brand New, Exclusive Alarm Technology from Vigilant for Active Lifestyles
Dark Streets are Less Dangerous with the Vigilant Clip Alarm
(a blog post from the President of Vigilant Personal Protection Systems)
In the pre-dawn hours this morning, I went for a long walk in suburban Tampa. On the way out the door, I grabbed the Vigilant wrist alarm. Once in the street, I gave it a quick test, and then clipped it on the waistband of my running shorts just above my hip. I will acknowledge I am biased, but this is a great alarm. It’s designed to go with you wherever you go, but when you are wearing it you will forget you have it on unless you need it. It’s so lightweight, and stays in place with no drifting (is that the right word?)
Anyway, it brought me great peace of mind as I huffed and puffed through the intermittently dark neighborhood streets. I tested out the built in flashlight (making sure I turned the clip alarm off first!) and really appreciated the light. It casts an extra wide spotlight… wider than most of the Vigilant alarms. The beam was wide enough to illuminate the full width of the sidewalk. I was surprised how wide the beam was. On my walk, I didn’t need the light the whole time (and I bet that would eat the batteries) but it was excellent for the truly dark spots of the walk. I also used the light a few times to make sure approaching cars knew I was there.
All in all, I am really happy with this alarm. The patent pending clip alarm design is only available from Vigilant and our sister company Mace. On my long walk, the alarm made me more confident, illuminated the walking path, and was not noticeable when I was wearing it on my waistband. I think it is an essential hands-free gadget for runners and walkers, and within the Vigilant line of personal alarms it is the best choice for active lifestyles.

Wearable clip alarm features a proprietary emergency alarm activation mechanism with the the belt clip itself serving as the on/off trigger for alarm activation.
Traditional alarms use either a grenade-style pin, or a push button on/off system for alarm activation. The PPS-30 improves on typical alarm designs with proprietary emergency activation simply by grabbing the alarm.
The result is an alarm that provides superior, instantaneous activation without requiring any steps or precision in the event of an emergency while simultaneously reducing accidental activations. Simply grab the alarm and the spring-loaded clip will trigger the 130dB alarm automatically. Open the clip and deactivate it with the OFF switch to silence the alarm.
LED Wide angle flashlight and preloaded, user replaceable batteries.
The Vigilant Clip alarm has a press-and-hold ON button for the LED flashlight, which casts a surprisingly wide light beam for illumunating the immediate vicinity. It's the perfect jogger companion light for a quick spotlight on a jogging path, to increase visibility on a dark street, or a walk across campus late at night. The beam is wider than most Vigilant alarm lights with a specially designed lifetime LED bulb for wide angle vision.
The alarm also comes preloaded with regular alkaline LR44 (button type) batteries. When you get the alarm, pull and discard the plastic battery tab and your alarm is ready. The included batteries will last over a year before they need replacement, or sooner if you regularly use the alarm or flashlight.
To change the batteries, use a small screwdriver to remove three screws from the back of the alarm, and insert 3 new heavy duty LR44 batteries. Test the alarm and LED flashlight functions after battery replacement.
How Loud is the Clip Alarm at 130dB?
The decibel (abbreviated dB) is the unit used to measure how loud a sound is. The decibel scale is a little odd because the human ear is incredibly sensitive. Your ears can hear everything from your fingertip brushing lightly over your skin to a loud jet engine. In terms of power, the sound of the jet engine is about 1,000,000,000,000 times more powerful than the smallest sound that your ears can just barely hear.
On the decibel scale, the smallest audible sound (near total silence) is 0 dB. A sound 10 times more powerful is 10 dB. A sound 100 times more powerful than near total silence is 20 dB. A sound 1,000 times more powerful than near total silence is 30 dB. Below is a list of common sounds and their decibel levels.

My only concern is how it will hold up in the cold weather or rain (we can get a lot of both in the NorthEast). Of course you could say that for the majority of the personal security devises out there. I have not tried to change the battery yet. If I have issues doing that I will modify this rating.
Wife loves the color.
I enjoy the peace of mind that this alarm gives when she goes to work out at the club wearing this.
Easily clips on her clothes, backpack, or purse.
Vigilant Wearable has a video that you could watch so you would use this alarm correctly the 'first' time it is needed.
Just grab it off of whatever it is clipped to and the alarm goes off, it is that easy.
And the 130dB should cause a lot of ATTENTION.
The alarm is compact, with a streamlined "no snag" design. It is a well thought out alarm, that requires NO fine motor coordination to activate! - That is important; the first thing a person looses when he or she is attacked, is "fine motor coordination". To activate this unit, the wearer only has to grab it and yank it away from what ever it is clipped on to (pocket, waist band, purse, etc.).
It is loud.
I haven't used it again because of the risk of losing it. Will buy another non clip-on style.
