About the Author

Krystal Shannan goes to sleep every night dreaming of mythical realms with werewolves, vampires, fae, and dragons. Occasional a fabulous, completely human story slips into the mix, but powers and abilities usually crop up without fail, twisting reality into whatever her mind can conceive. As a child, her parents encouraged her interests in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and all things historical and magickal. As an adult, the interests only grew. She is a child of Neverland and refuses to ever stop believing in fairies. She is guilty of indulging in and being a Buffy the Vampire Slayer groupie as well as an Angel fan. For those of you unfamiliar with the world of Joss Whedon, you are missing out! She also makes sure to watch as many action and adventure movies as possible. The more exciting the better. Yippee-Ki-Yay… If you don’t know the end of that phrase, then you probably don’t like the same movies. She enjoys reading romance in all genres, but especially paranormal. Her favorite book is ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon. But really, if it has a ‘Happily Ever After’, she’s on board! Krystal writes stories full of action, snark, magick, a little bit of humor, and heart-felt emotion. If you are looking for leisurely-paced sweet romance, her books are probably not for you. However, for those looking for a magickal ride, filled with adventure, passion, and just a hint of humor. Welcome home.

Bailey Ross has led a tormented life. She was orphaned, abused by her ex, and has spent years on the run. Now she is being stalked by a horrible supernatural predator as well as her psychotic human ex. Erick Thorson, a vampire, comes to Bailey’s rescue and she is inexplicably drawn to him. Since suffering the brutality handed out by her ex she has had no desire or trust for a man whether he is a human or one of the others. Erick offers her protection and much more when he takes her to Sanctuary, Texas. Sanctuary is a town consisting of others, and despite being a human she feels at home there as well as in Erick’s arms; if Bailey has learned anything in her short life it is that something so good has to go wrong at some point.

It is obvious Bailey is a pillar of strength. This young woman has endured more than any person should ever have to, but she keeps fighting to survive. It is her strength that draws Erick; he was a Viking in his human life, and he is attracted to her warrior spirit. Erick is so compassionate and gentle, but he is also passionate and commanding. I loved the way he considered Bailey’s fears, but also pushed her to work through them. Let me tell you, Erick isn’t the only sex god in Sanctuary just wait until you meet the lycans and dragons!

Krystal Shannan has a new fan! My Viking Vampire had me completely mesmerized! The setting of the story takes place in a future United States that is very different from today. I thought the storyline was very unique, and her descriptions of the time and place were very illustrative. Did I mention that the chemistry between the two main characters is downright fiery and titillating?

My Viking Vampire is the first book in the Sanctuary, Texas series. I am really excited to see where Bailey’s journey leads her next, and I look forward to the opportunity to learn more about the other rich and vibrant characters in Sanctuary!

I really tried to like it. It was just too depressing for me. An apocalyptic world where women are 3rd class citizens and the world went to hell when the "Others" came out is just not a good backdrop for a romance. Way too much of a 'saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave me' vibe for the heroine. With too much of our world is going to hell if anything odd happens. Basically our country went to hell except for a small section - not realistic and the only options for women if they don't marry by 18 is to be whores or slaves. Not romantic at all. I read to escape reality not to encounter a fantasy version of it. The hero sounds awesome as well as the town and people he inhabits. Too bad the rest isn't as awesome.

I reach page 140 and just couldn't finish the last 50 pages. I really liked the other story I read by this author, but this one was just a constant struggle to get into. I think the main problem is there were too many elements to the story and it ended up bringing the whole thing down. If it had just been a paranormal or a dystopian future or a erotic/bdsm or a even a simple contemporary romance it would have worked better. This was a case of too much of a good thing. All of these types of stories are popular, but when you try and incorporate it into one story it is a bit much, especially for a novella. I did like the couple, but the action was strangely paced it jumped from intense action to mundane everyday events and then back. It didn't flow smoothly and the female lead was a little weak for my taste. I understand she had a traumatic past, but all the negativity made it hard for me to root for her. I wanted to love it, but in the end I just couldn't even finish it. Back to the Vegas Mates, hope story two in that one is as good as the first.

I enjoy paranormal stories for the most part, but not really a fan of detailed sex romantic novels. I actually much prefer to use my own imagination rather than a blow-by-blow description of how hot the sex is between characters, so personally, this was a 3 star book. It bogged the story down for me, and I found myself skipping through repeated versions of "hot sex" just so I could finish the story. If you enjoy mild to medium erotica stories, you might try this one out. Certainly not as sophisticated as 50 Shades of Gray, but there were lots of side characters that added to the humor and suspense, and they kept me reading to the end.
I consider this an adult book, rated R, but not X. I will say that the author demonstrates an excellent knowledge of what a woman enjoys from her partner in a sexually intimate relationship. I enjoyed the growth of the heroine who overcame her tortuous past, but felt the falling into bed trust thing was waaaay too fast. I will probably purchase the next book to see what develops in these characters (other than the constant lusting after everyone in Sanctuary). Author has potential in this genre,

I'm torn between giving this a 2 or 3 star review. I'm not sure why this book got so many 5 stars, it's borderline Cinemax soft core porn. (You know all sex with kind of a storyline to support all the sex) Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the sexy scenes, but I want a great story to go with it. This book doesn't quite deliver. The constant changing between past and present tense and the repetition almost made me stop reading. We get it, you had a terrible, abusive ex boyfriend, the humans don't know a lot about the Others, humans can be worse than the Others. I wanted to know more about the town, the people, the actual history and why things were the way they were. There were so many lost opportunities to make this an excellent book. Perhaps the author needs an editor for content. And here's where I'm torn with the stars, the concept was good enough that I'll probably get the second book (with hopes that Ms. Shannan steps up her game) because I kinda what to know where this is all going.
