MEMBER OF THE PARANORMAL ROMANCE REVIEW TEAM
Witches, shifters, vampires, brownies and a dark Fairy Godmother named Pandora, her name says it all. Pandora (Dori) has decided that she is going to start a new business finding Happy Ever Afters for those too much of a challenge for the normal Fairy Godmothers, after all even those who are not considered worthy of love deserve it and she is going to see that they get it.
Her first clients are Viktor Krescech a century old vampire known as the Destroyer. He is the one parents tell their children about to scare them. He is the monster hiding under the bed and it is a reputation he embraces even though that is no longer what he is like. He was taken by a vampiress named Melisandre who used him as a blood slave until she felt he was getting too old and turned him. His hatred for her and her coven led him to kill them all as soon as he was turned and the only one who escaped his wrath was Conrad Dair who Viktor has been after for centuries.
Dori’s other client is Viktor’s mate Halle Briggs who is to become Conrad’s breeding machine since her father owes him a blood debt. If the debt is not fulfilled then war will break out. The first thing Dori does it convince Viktor that he has to stop Conrad from getting his happy ever after something Viktor is more than happy to do but he never expected to find a beautiful leopard shifter who he has to protect.
Halle knows all about Viktor but she is not afraid since her leopard recognizes him as their mate. Conrad is not going to just go away and Dori, Viktor and Halle have a fight on their hands. This was a vampire, shifter romance with a fairy tale vibe, loved it. Oh and by the way the sex was hot.
I’ve read countless stories featuring the good guys finding their love and living HEA. I’ve also read my share of stories centering around vamps that aren’t quite as evil as once feared, shifters who marry outside their pack/kind, and misunderstood paranormals who want a new lease on life. Love. Family. Everything.
Those books are common, found in every bookstore. However, what I haven’t seen lining the shelves are books about a dark fairy godmother that wants the so-called villains to find their mates and live Happily Evil After.
In the human world, good and evil can be found in every walk of life. It makes no difference your color or gender. There’s good and bad all around us. The same can be said in the paranormal world — evil and not so evil beings can be found in every coven, pack, territory and so forth.
As we saw with Viktor, not all creatures are complete blood thirsty, ruthless b@stards. Viktor didn’t choose this life. Actually, it was forced upon him. He didn’t deserve to lose his family. He did deserve a second chance and thank goodness Dori stepped up to work her magic.
Dori: She is wonderfully mischievous, manipulative, has no boundaries at all, and is quite humorous. If I had a fairy godmother, dark or light, I would hope she’d be like Dori. However, I would insist she’d leave my underthings on. I may not care for wearing a bra but I do like my pu$$ covered.
Other characters I loved…..
How about EVERYONE! Ok, maybe not everyone. Conrad was a d0uche, an @$$hat, and a complete psychop@th. Kudos to Sarah for creating a character I loved to hate and creating so many characters I loved falling in love with.
VIKTOR (Happy Evil After Book 1) by Sarah Marsh is a novella beginning to a new series that I devoured! This author has a unique voice and easy to follow world-building in this paranormal romance series that keeps you turning the pages.
The character that will connect all the books in this series is Pandora “Dori”, who is a dark Fairy Godmother. She has never fit in with the rest of the Godmothers. She comes to realize that like herself, different doesn’t necessarily mean always and forever bad. She decides to help others deemed ‘not worthy’ of a happy ending to find one with her black matchmaking mastermind notebook.
Viktor likes his scary boogeyman reputation. It keeps others away and leaves him to do what he likes. He has almost completed his revenge on the vampire coven that turned him. Only one remains, Conrad Daire, who is now head of the North American coven. Few realize what lies behind his façade, but Viktor knows him for the psychopath he truly is. As Victor enjoys a drink at The Pit, in pops Dori to tell Viktor how he can ruin Conrad’s happily ever after.
Halle Briggs is a beautiful leopard shifter. She is the beloved daughter of the head of the leopard pard and has become the prize that Conrad wants for saving her father’s life years ago. Halle has spirit and hates Conrad, but sees no way out until a certain dark Fairy Godmother pops in to tell her that she will be rescued, but she needs to do everything in her power to make sure she stays with Viktor. She will have to fight for her happily ever after and her mate.
This novella contains so much and yet is extremely well paced and never seems rushed or missing information. The sex scenes are explicit and sizzling, but I did not feel they were gratuitous. I just fell into this new world and was very sorry to see the end. I will definitely be following this series into the future and hope it continues to make me cheer for the unlikely H/h’s and laugh out loud at Dori’s matchmaking and snarky attitude.
