There is Mathmatica, an office like set, programming languages and a lot more. That's all free at the Raspberry.org website. I did flash a 64 gig memory card so I could have more room. I plugged in an external solid state drive and it all works flawlessly. I got this to go with a robot design I'm working on but anyone can use this.
For the money this is a no brainier. You can pick up a flatscreen monitor at most Goodwill stores for around $20. Throw in a simple mouse and keyboard and you have about the cheapest computer you could ever ask for. There are so many add on's for this it's mind blowing.
My Dell has a port for DVI and a DisplayPort. DisplayPort to HDMI dongles did not work, but a AmazonBasics HDMI Input to DVI Output Adapter Cable - 6 Feet (Latest Standard) from Amazon worked great.
If there's anything I can do to caution people, the monitor issue is the biggest problem when starting out with a Raspberry Pi. It's the biggest reason they get returned and support for which monitors work with Raspberry Pi is spotty. It works fine with HDMI monitors. If you have a monitor with a DVI port, try the Amazon cable. I spent months on and off looking for a solution besides spending $250 on another high-end monitor and the cable saved the day.
Setup takes 20 minutes for the Raspberry Pi to boot, install the OS, reboot, change the configurations for localization, reboot and it's been problem-free ever since.
Even without the heat sinks, I am able to watch YouTube videos and surf the Internet. There's no support to watch movies on Amazon Prime because there's no digital rights management module for Linux, but I have a $3,000 laptop for that and it was never my plan to buy this and watch movies on Amazon. I'm just testing out the Raspberry Pi to see what I can do and it's impressive.
Next up: creating a weather station and other experiments in fun.
The seller of this kit is one of the best! When I got the kit, somehow, the microSD card has some issue that I can not read. I contacted the seller, within a few minutes, they replied me with a replacement for the microSD card!
After I used the kit for a little while, somehow the WIFI and Bluetooth module is not working anymore. I checked online, it seems it is due to the hardware from the manufacturer, there's a lot of people experience the same thing using the official PI. I contacted the seller again, and very soon, I got their reply with a replacement of a new board! And the seller even send me a nice 200 pages VILROS raspberry PI user's guide with some suggestions!
Anyway, if I could give them 10 stars, I will! And I highly recommend their product and doing business with this great seller!
If you are looking for one, you might already be aware that you can use it as a media center, an arcade machine, a tablet computer, a weather station, a web server, for home automation… and even to control robots for the most geek. I actually use it as a media server and plan to use it for home automation.
This kit comes with everything you need to connect your Pi to a screen and to have it ready to use in 10 minutes. The micro-SD is loaded with NOOB and, in literally one click, will take care of installing the OS and softwares for you. If you want to work on your Pi directly (i.e. not remotely) you will only need to connect your own keyboard and mouse.
