I use the cords to wrap around the device and tie on the binding. This helps them stay out of the way and makes it look more like a man's device. No, fru-fru bow for me.
The case looks like a really nice moleskin. It has a vintage or rustic aesthetic. I think it is better styled for men than women. It has a nice rough suede feel that makes it easy to hold and that lovely light leather smell. You don't have to worry about it getting scratched or scraped - it should get those imperfections - that is the style. Scratches that do occur just git it more character.
The large inner pocket does not appear to put any undue pressure on the screen. However, the inner pocket serves no purpose. Octo should just make the interior flat black. By the way, the black sections seem to be a really high-quality felt, but stitched - perhaps gingham? Either way, it is wonderful.
The case does have some mild bulk. Nothing that detracts from the device's portability. I've gotten many comments about how great the case looks and feels.
So, the real question is - is it worth the added cost over the standard case? Yes. Don't tell me you think it costs too much - you are a Kindle owner, you obviously have some disposable income. Do yourself a favor and treat your K2 to this wonderful case.
Now nine months later I am very disappointed that the color from the jacket is staining my Kindle 2. I have taken it off and am very sorry about
this. I wouldn't recommend it to those who do not want any stains on their Kindle. 12/2010
Pros: Rugged appearance; thick & sturdy construction; folds back completely; clip-in system holds Kindle securely, particularly with additional strap in bottom, right-hand corner; inside pocket is the perfect size to hold my airline boarding passes (no more fumbling about as I try to remember what 'easy-to-get-at-but-secure' place I stashed them).
Cons: High price; cover definitely muffles sound if you're utilizing the text to speech feature (IMHO, if this is a feature you use regularly, this may not be the cover for you); does not fasten in closed position for extra protection. WARNING: I set a warm cup down of the top of this cover for about 30 seconds. It left a permanent ring mark in the leather. To me, that adds to the distressed look, but I imagine it would not hold that same appeal for others. ;-)
Recommended.
I had my kindle in this case and put in my travel bag which is more of a soft briefcase type bag and it got bent enough to destroy my kindle. It is a great case and loved it but it is not the type of protection I needed. Its way too bendable.
The hinge holds the Kindle securely in place and the cover folds back very nicely for one handed reading. I found the Kindle, by itself, to be strangely uncomfortable to hold, I think because it is so thin. With the cover, I was very comfortable holding it for long periods, while reading and turning "pages".
I do want to offer a word of warning. This is "distressed" leather and it will pick up marks and scuffs easily. Folding back the cover will create "crease" lines in the leather at the spine. It's supposed to do that and that adds to the charm. But if that's going to bother you, you might want to choose a different cover.
