There are three friends - two guys and a woman - who are coming up in the series (the woman-friend, a former FWB of the hero...which also wasn’t really dealt with and I felt like I was left hanging).
“Why does someone so g*******d beautiful have to be so much trouble?”
I’m not going to deny this wasn’t entirely what I was expecting—if like me you’ve read Rebecca’s Dublin Rugby series, you‘ll know she writes men with bravado and can crank up the heat levels a notch or two—here however we’re brought sexy-times which aren’t closed door, but more that end of the sliding scale of steam, with a man who shows a an alpha-edge in certain circumstances, yet also respects women hugely. And this was why I appreciated Noah, and Angelica—they’re that bit older, experienced, grounded and successful in their own rights, can fight their own battles, but are still entering unchartered and unexpected territory where their feelings are concerned—and whilst passionate, they have an intimacy which goes beyond the bedroom, cementing the sweeter romantic aspects as the focal point throughout.
“From the moment I laid eyes on you, I wanted you. You take my breath away.”
Rebecca Norinne and Jamaila Brinkley are without doubt a duo to watch, and I’m looking forward to discovering what delights The Distiller’s Darling will hold when released later this year.
In this first edition of the series, retiring actress Angelica has bought a run down vineyard with high hopes of turning it into a successful B&B. That is until she meets her hot new neighbor.
Noah is a socialite who wants to make a name for himself, not off his famous winemaker father's legacy. He has been doing well for himself that is until one morning he wakes to someone pulling out his prize vines. Determined to give his new neighbor a piece of his mind he heads over only to find that his new neighbor is hot.
Can Angelica make up to Noah what some idiots took from him? Can they ever come to a truce?
Not only was this book funny and entertaining, it was hot and steamy without it being really dirty. Don't get me wrong these two have some strong chemistry brewing between them and really have some interesting places that they get down and dirty in, but hey it keeps things interesting
This book had a great plot to it and the writing flowed smoothly. Both of these characters are very strong-minded and independent causing them to be very stubborn. Which at most times has you laughing out loud. The banter between them is hilarious. I can't wait to see what this author has for the next book in this series. I am hooked.
He chose a difficult and contrasted way to follow his passion for viticulture and wine, breaking away from his father’s productions, more traditional and well known, following his need to create something of his own.
I always thought I could find out more about a man through his relationship with animals, especially dogs, a real litmus test that allows you to notice lot of things you couldn't see in any other way, and Molly, Noah's labrador, can show us some aspects very nice and caring of Noah.
The first meeting between Noah and Angelica doesn’t start under lucky circumstances, indeed, Noah is furious because the workers, hired by his new neighbor, have barbarously eradicated his precious vines. No, definitely the wrong way to get acquainted with him for Angelica, but in this quarrel Molly is there with her little role of peacemaker.
I can’t deny that much of Noah’s charm is due precisely with his mood a little rough around the edges, simple, instinctive, direct. He feels conflicting emotions towards Angelica, but for him it’s really difficult to trust someone, however he can’t resist the temptation she represents. With her sexy and curvaceous body she embodies his ideal of feminine beauty, but he’s even more attracted to Angelica because she is smart and funny.
Taste is one of the pleasures of life and Noah, along with his love for wine, has a way of appreciating beautiful things through his senses. He is a tactile man, who loves touching his vines, his “creatures”, but also Angelica's body. He loves to look at her, enjoying her beauty and showing his need for her.
I really loved that, even if at times he manages to entangle everything on his own.
Beetween Noah and Angelica there’s an explosive chemistry, but we can also see they just love spending time together, their bond is not based only on passion, but it’s also the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Angelica surprised me as character, I was expecting a movie star a bit out of the reality of everyday life, but she isn’t like that. She’s a solid woman who invests everything she has in a dream and she’s ready to roll up her sleeves to carry on her project. She is nice, but aware of her potential and she knows how to use her skills and she’s also been able to stand up to Noah in a fantastic way.
"The Vintner's Vixen" is the first book in the River Hill series, written by Rebecca Norinne and Jamaila Brinkley, a series I think has great potential, I really liked the atmosphere in which the story is set and Noah's friends are very intriguing, I hope to find out more about them in the next books
