How will I know what album I'll be receiving? "After you subscribe, visit the Returns & Orders page to see which album you'll receive this month. If you aren't interested in the album on its way, go to the Manage Your Subscriptions page and click 'skip this box' to skip the month's album".
With the first two albums I received, my first notification was when the Amazon truck dropped them off at my house. With my third album, my first notification was via an email when Amazon thanked me for my recent order. I logged in to see what I ordered, since I didn't remember ordering anything.
All three of the albums I received are albums I would never purchase,
1. The Clash - London Calling, not something I would enjoy and I returned it.
2. Van Valen - Van Halen, which was actually pretty good and I remember purchasing it went it was released. I may end up keeping this album.
3. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street, which is rated #1 or #2 most popular album of the Rolling Stones, depending on which website you use. Not a big fan of this album and I will be returning it.
I would much rather had received the Rolling Stones, Sticky Fingers, album versus Exile on Main Street, since I would listen to it repeatedly and never returned it.
Wild Horses, Brown Sugar, Can't You Hear Me Knocking are some of my favorite songs of all time. I can listen to these songs over and over.
Do not get me wrong, the three albums I received are outstanding albums of the 70's and 80's, but they are not the type of music I enjoy. I would play them once and never play them again, so I will return them.
As I said, the concept is an outstanding and a fantastic idea, especially, since was I was lead to believe I would be receiving albums by the following artists, according to the Amazon web page, https://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Month-Club-Golden-Subscription.
1. Mile Davis - I already have most of Miles Davis albums.
2. Led Zeppelin - I love Led Zeppelin
3. Fleetwood Mac - I love the early Fleetwood Mac
4. Aretha Franklin - Songs I grew up listening to and I already have most of her albums.
5. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon, Meddle, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, all fantastic albums !!
I read where some people received Pink Floyd albums, The Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall. I would really enjoy receiving them versus what I already received.
Update - I received The Wall, in March, and I already have The Dark Side of the Moon on a SACD, plus the Immersion Box Set. Every time I play the "multi channel" SACD version of The Dark Side of the Moon, it sounds like Pink Floyd is playing my living room. Each instrument is playing on a separate speaker. Lower the lights, turn up the volume, close your eyes, and enjoy the music!!
I am a big music lover, so the Vinyl of the Month Club is a perfect fit for me. Iron out the kinks and it will be a big success .
I am an older guy with a largish record collection that enjoys filling holes in my collection. I have a steady lady who has been building her own collection from scratch for the past few years. Between us, there has not been a single mailing from the Club that we did not appreciate.
We joined last summer. Our first record was Pink Floyd's DSOTM (the stellar 2016 remaster). Since then we have received records by The Clash, The Who, The Supremes and others. Most of them have been double albums. All of them have been extremely good pressings. Many of them have been cheaper at the club price than if I had simply ordered them from Amazon individually. Every one has been an essential album for a well-rounded collection.
So far, the only hiccup has been that we never saw the January 2022 album. For us, that would have been Let It Be by The Beatles. On one hand, I understand why it probably isn't available - The Beatles are currently thin in North America due to recent manufacturing changes. On the other hand, I don't know why they wouldn't have skipped along to the next record or substituted something else. It hasn't been devastating; Amazon doesn't charge for them until they ship so we aren't out any money. But we have already gotten to looking forward to the monthly record.
In any case, barring that anomaly, this club has been a great experience so far. Anyone who has been collecting rock albums for a long time may already have most of what is on offer here. But if you are building, or rebuilding, a collection then this is a very good way to put together many of the essentials.
Update : Shortly after posting this review, that Beatles/Let It Be record held over from January showed up. It was properly packaged for shipping and on great shape. I have reviewed Let It Be on that product page. Still very happy with the service.
The good is that the titles are great quality at a good price. Any instances of defective vinyl are easily resolved. Highly recommended.
The reason for 1 one star is that nobody in customer service knows or understands this product. When I attempt to fix the issue via chat or phone call with customer service I was bounced around more than basketball in the NBA finals. The last person I was transferred to did me the favor of cancelling my subscription and he thought he solved my problem.
Bottom line is it is great while it works but it will fail you eventually and nobody knows what the service even is let alone how to fix it. If Amazon cannot support this product they shouldn't sell it.
