Our story goes all the way back in high school- giving us a precious glimpse into the very complex history of Ezra, Damon, and Emily. Emily is a trapped bird- destined to marry a man she doesn’t love, weighed down by her oppressive parents. The chaos of being in the twins’ orbit is intoxicating to her- perhaps she could just a little before her soul dies in an unhappy marriage. And Damon and Ezra would love nothing more than to unravel the tight laced good girl. Just some fun. Just for six week, until they head in different directions for college. But none of them expected the connection to be formed- the love to grow- for the twins to unleash the full fire that is Emily, or for Emily to somehow reign in these two unruly men. None expected the dramatic end. An end we don’t yet understand- but everyone has secrets, everyone’s motives are opaque, and now 10 years in the future the same fire exists between all of them as they reunite at Lily’s engagement party. The feelings are there, but the players have different needs, the former arrangement won’t work, and secrets have long been buried. And only one twin really holds Emily’s full heart.
I am NOT a fan of love triangles- but this isn’t really one. Emily is never caught between two twins, she’s not unsure who she loves. She knows she can’t have either, she knows she cares about both, but there is never a question about which twin she’s in love with. So, don’t let that deter you - the relationship between the three of them is confusing and complicated, but this is not a story of a girl trying to choose between two men she loves. This is the story of a girl just fighting for the right, for the freedom, to love at all. And this is the story of three people working through a painful history, trying to rectify past and present transgressions, trying to figure out how to be who they want to be, who they need to be, without throwing the bigger game at foot off kilter.
I LOVED the twins. Lily gives each of them such depth, such complex personalities, and I myself found myself caring and loving for both of them, even though I could not deny there is just a sizzle between Emily and Ezra. Ezra is colder, more calculated and more dominant.. Where as Damon is a ball of energy, chaos. To be honest, it took me a minute to warm up to Emily- and I don’t think she really grew much in this story. Her past self at 18 read very much like her 28 year old self. Perhaps this was intentional- she’s not allowed to really exist- but I wanted to see her emotionally grow in the way that Damon, and especially Ezra did. We don’t even get to see her fully take back her freedom-and what freedom she does get comes from Ezra’s learning, rather than her own. But the chemistry is outstanding- the way Lily gives words to their pain, their tension, their longing and their hurt- it is GUTTING. Poetically painful. And after this, I’m DESPERATE for Damon, and his beautiful battered soul, to find the love he craves.
All of the inferno boys stories are intricately interwoven, so we get some cool glimpses into the prior couples challenges as well as some groundwork for the future. The overarching family plot- a web of deceit and mystery- continues to inch forward, but we don’t make too much traction on it in this book given all the angst between these three and some unfinished business they have with some folks from
the past. I can live with that, since this series is a long game, but what was more challenging for me was unanswered questions about this couple. In past books, the couple’s journeys were incomplete, but we knew they’d be together. With Ezra and Emily we still don’t know- because obstacles that are still insurmountable are still in the way. Even though they decide to be together, we have an abrupt ending that leaves us unclear on how they will tackle that final issue, and I have a suspicion we won’t get answered until Mason’s story, which is the literal last book.
I’m still all in on this series, even though I left this book with more questions than answers. I don’t know HOW Lily is producing such quality books so quickly, but I’m just going to suck up all the awesome while I can. The inferno boys keep challenging my perceptions, keep me on my toes, and give me all the swoony feels- even if I want to punch them. If you love bullyish, love-hate, alpha and possessive anti-heroes and bougie worlds full of intrigue, questionable motives and secret agendas, and so much deceit- then pick up this series!
This book nearly destroyed me. I cried countless times, I laughed out loud, I cheered, I wanted to punch some mofos, l was enamored, I was shocked, and I was completely in awe of the brilliance that is Lily White’s mind.
Violence shows some of the gaps we missed in the first two books about what was happening between Emily and the twins. What was only supposed to be 6 weeks of fun for Emily in high-school turned into a lifetime of heartbreak, lust, and love. Emily is promised to marry Mason, and lives a sheltered life. Ezra and Damon show her a glimpse of what fun life can be and agrees to 6 weeks with the twins. At the end of their time together both twins reveal separately that they have fallen for her. She loves them both (although she’s only in love with one of them), but to ensure the two remain close, she stops talking to them after they leave for college. Ten years later the trio reunites, and it’s like they never missed any time together. Both twins are still in love with her, but her heart only belongs to Ezra. How can she be with the man she loves if it means destroying his brother’s heart?
Ah! This book is so good! And that ending!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 I will say, for such a close, loyal group of friends, there is a whole lot of deceit and lying going on. I love it!
I’m completely enthralled with this series and cannot wait for Shane’s story!!
Ezra thought it would be a good idea to go after the girl that was all buttoned up. He never expected the wildcat he unleashed. Bringing Damon into the mix seemed like a good idea. Neither was supposed to catch feelings.
A fun fling that would last a short time. Emily could never promise more to anyone because her life was not her own. Her fun had an expiration date. By thirty she’d be married to a man her parents already agreed for her to wed.
The problem is that Emily loves them both, but only one of them sets her soul on fire. Her heart truly belongs to only one of them. One will have their heart crushed and the other will get what he’s always wanted. She’s not willing to tear them apart, so she’ll do what’s necessary to protect them all.
This newest addition to the series will give you some answers, yet more questions. Nothing is ever cut and dry with this crew. Everyone has secrets and their own agenda. This inter-connected series will leave you wondering and always wanting more.
The author digs deep with these characters and gives us breadcrumbs throughout. The pain and the heartbreak is real. Holy angst!!! You’ll get a taste of what’s next, even though you’ll want them all nowwww! The author continues to bring us along on this incredible ride with sexy men, sizzling chemistry, suspense and intrigue. I cannot wait for more!!!
This is the third installment in a series of standalone romance-mystery books. This book has a love triangle, friends with benefits and a lot of angst.
I usually am not a big fan of love triangles but this one worked because it’s not like the FMC was undecided which can be annoying. You can feel the relationships between both Emily and the twins.
There would be plot holes because the books aren’t complete standalones but companion books. This lost one star because the book dragged around the 38th chapter.
