Editorial Reviews

Review

"...Wells is very adept at building suspense through vividly described details. This gives her writing a sort of cinematic quality that makes me want to see the movie adaptation of this novel. This is truly impressive for a debut author. I predict that this novel will be an amazing, YA winner!!" - Maria from A Nights Dream of Books Blog

"Killer paranormal book, with a side of romance!" - Cianna Reider from Nerd Girl Book Review

From the Back Cover

For a moment, I felt like I was on a plane taking off.  My ears plugged up, then began popping while my breaths were low and quick as if the oxygen supply was diminishing.  I felt light-headed, but not like I was going to pass out.  It was as if my senses were paralyzing me, trapping me in my own skin.  All I could do was sit there and continue to watch my father's lips move but unable to hear his words.  My thoughts echoed the word, "...werewolf."

I've read a lot of paranormal werewolf stories over the years but this one is one of my favorites. Logan and Luke are great characters with these complex histories and lives that just suck you in. While it's clearly written for the YA crowd I think readers of all ages will enjoy it.

Logan has had a lot to deal with since the death of her mother and being shipped off to live in Wyoming. Overnight she's gone from wealthy, popular California teenager to the new kid in town in the middle of Wyoming. Logan is a strong girl and she adapts, but as she tries to settle in she realizes that something's off about her new home and there's a lot of secrets going on. Luke rapidly becomes her everything, but he's got secrets of his own and this throws a wrench into their romantic relationship. That's part of his appeal though, I mean what girl can resist a guy with a bit of mystery about him?

The story throws a few twists in that take you by surprise, and I love how Wells brings all the emotions through so strongly. Logan is such an appealing character thanks to the great writing and I'm eager to see how this series plays out.

Logan Keller is a California socialite who has suffered a horrific tragedy by the death of her mother. The story opens with Logan just having arrived in Wyoming to live with her dad who she hasn’t seen in 7 years and her step-mother whom she didn’t even know existed. She’s left behind her boyfriend and her childhood best friend and really feels like she’s lost her place in life, her direction and everything she’s ever known. I instantly connected with Logan in these opening chapters, the heartache and despair that this young girl feels over the loss of her mother was just heart wrenching to read! Logan soon discovers that her dad and step-mom have also taken in 3 teenage boys whose own parents died the year before. Logan instantly feels a connection towards the middle brother Lucas and it’s completely believable here, he’s a sensitive, caring boy who I suspect still hadn’t fully recovered from his own parents deaths. He knows exactly what Logan is going through and because of this he manages to be the one person she feels safe with and can open up too. I just loved their connection right from the start! Lucas isn’t without faults though; Logan becomes increasingly confused by his ever changing moods. Logan is convinced that Lucas, and possibly her dad, are hiding something from her and she’s determined to find out what it is!

I absolutely loved The Violet Hour; from the opening sentence to its poetic closure it was perfect in every sense of the word! One of the things I loved most was Logan herself. She is strong, independent and doesn’t take crap from anyone! Even as her feelings for Lucas deepen she continues to push the boundaries of their relationship by demanding honesty and truth, not willing to settle for anything less.

Thoroughly enjoyable paranormal love story with a few twists and turns. Readers of Stephenie Meyer and Maggie Stiefvater will certainly enjoy this tale! The pace was good, the characters interesting and the writing excellent.
I particularly enjoyed the fact that the main character is a celebrity - it added a unique take on the whole girls meets boy who happens to be a werewolf story.
I think Andrea Wells is a name we'll be hearing a lot more of in the future.
Can't wait for the next instalment.

“It’s the violet hour; when the day stands at the threshold of night taking a deep breath before crossing over into the darkness. It’s the hour to reflect on the day’s journey and rejoice in what tomorrow may bring. As the sun leisurely makes its way toward the edge of earth, it lets us know it’s not saying ‘goodbye’ just merely saying ‘see you soon.’

This debut novel and a beginning to a Violet Hour Series has a strong start. This is a perfect YA read with twists that you foresee coming and yet you are never prepared for when the twist arrives because it brings in something extra with it that you did not expect. I thoroughly enjoyed Andrea's writing and the world she has built that was so realistic as it portrayed the struggles of a teenage girl brought up with too much money and fame and forced to deal with a death of a parent.

Logan Keller is a teenage socialite living the good life until death death of her mother. She had it all fame, best friend who is almost her twin, a boyfriend, all the designer wear and the right connections that make a West Coast Socialite. With a very public death of her mother she is shipped off to stay with her estranged father who lives in Wyoming with a new wife. Leaving all of her life and social connections behind as a teenager is hard, on top of grieving. Upon arriving at her new place she discovers 3 new residents who live with her father. Three boys and one of them she feels instant connection with. One who draws her in and yet confuses her at the same time.

Luke, middle brother of the 3 boys, tries to show Logan around and in a way take care of her.
