Editorial Reviews

From the Author

If you're purchasing the Kindle Edition of this book please keep in mind that it is a book of color photographs - it will probably not be worth looking at on a b/w Kindle.  Please be sure that you intend to read it on either your Kindle Reader on your computer or else have a Kindle Fire or another Kindle which supports color.

There is also "A Pocket-Size Version of Some Violets of Eastern Japan" available if you actually want a book which is better sized to carry with you while out violet hunting.  That version is 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches and will fit in the pockets of most cargo-pants or, of course, in the pocket of your backpack.

THERE IS A NEWER EDITION OF THIS BOOK AVAILABLE.  Please search for Some Violets of Eastern Japan - 2nd Edition.

If you'd like to purchase a copy of this work which is signed by both authors please contact me (the primary author - Daniel).  There are a VERY LIMITED number available.  Just Google "danwiz violets" (without the quotes) and e-mail me via the e-mail link which can be found on all of my web pages.  The price is a very reasonable $30 with free first class postage included.

About the Author

Daniel has been living (and photographing) in Japan for over 10 years now. His partner and himself started photographing Violets about 8 years ago and became interested in identifying them correctly soon after that. They found a detailed book in Japanese language, so Kazuya (the co-author of this work) was able to read it, but not Daniel. They found this work to be very good and were quickly able to start identifying their photographs of Violets. They have added about 60 species to their life list since they have been Violets maniacs. This book shows 87 of Daniel and Kazuya's photos of Violets.

I was surprised to see a book on this subject, one of my favorite flowers & places. This is a beautiful collection of photos, with a nice description of each of the different varieties. I imagine it took quite a bit of effort, to capture this wide of a range, of fleeting, shy flowers. I have the kindle version, and am tempted to get the hard copy too!
