This is a 4 star product with an extra star for customer service (more on that later).
My review of this table:
Everything was well packed, a little too well packed as it was a bit of a struggle (by myself) to get all the parts out (the side skirts are on the "top" of the table so you'll need to flip the table to get to them, or alternately, flip it to get to all the other parts depending on what side you open. And everything is taped in, so be prepared. Take it all out of the box, everything first, lay it out and you'll be fine. Those reviewers blaming this company for shipping problems are incorrect. The shipping company is at fault. From what I can see it would be very hard to break any parts here and entirely a shipping problem.
Putting it together is not hard, but it is helpful to have one other person with you. I was able to put it all together myself but needed a hand to flip it over. It took me about 45 minutes to put together after everything was out of the box and I read the directions. Your time may differ depending on how handy you are. It took me longer to put together a cheap Foosball table. One reviewer said 3+ hours, I find that hard to believe, unless they are less-abled or lacked help, there just aren't that many parts.
This is a perfect size table for me, it feels just like the arcade and the display board is a nice addition. I am 6' tall and I have to really reach to get to the center line. This is not a "kids" table (although they have loads of fun on it) it's for both kids and adults alike.
I think it is just right. Not too fast, not slow. All boards have dead spots (even at the arcades) but the biggest contributor to noticing dead spots are the pucks. Dead spots or places on the table that receive less airflow are much more noticeable depending on the puck. I noticed my puck coming to a stop and not flowing freely on the table. My initial reaction was "wow this blower isn't very good" but I flipped the puck over and then it was gliding on the table all by itself. So a tip is to always have fresh pucks. Once a puck flies off the table (it will happen) it can get little chips/dents on the edges, which let's air escape and redirect, causing the puck to not float like it does "new". So look at your pucks closely often, flip them over (mark the bad side) if they seem to not float as well and purchase some replacements.
Pucks and Paddles:
The paddles are great. I had purchased a pair of "pro" paddles, but I find they are much worse than what comes with this table. The paddles have a rotating hand stick which I had never used before but is more comfortable than a standard paddle. The pucks are just the right weight for the table, they will fly off occasionally but the only way to prevent that on any table is a heavier puck and more reserved play. If you like a slow game, that will be fine, if not, you have to deal with flying pucks.. it happens. Check your pucks for damage occasionally.
Fit and finish:
The table looks great. Other than the legs (covered later) it looks like a professional table.
Everything was clean, no damage, everything looked "right". This is not made of metal and the reviewers expecting to sit on this table or have a dance party on the table surface need to understand that. Take care of your things...
My family has had so much fun on this table that after a week or so, it's already paid for itself in my eyes. My youngest revels in beating me, his eye get wide when he scores! I just love the table. Not only for the play but for the togetherness and fun that comes with it. This table is true "air hockey"
Now on to the "bad".
I use quotes because it's not really bad, just a few issues.
The legs are slightly different than the instructions lead you to believe, they do not line up perfectly as shown in the diagrams. The inner portion of each leg is shorter and narrower than diagram, momentarily leading me to scratch my head a bit. The legs went together fine but it doesn't "look" like it all fits properly. In addition, my received inner "leg" supports did not have screw holes as shown in the diagram. It's not a big deal, put it together, screw it and it fits. but not perfectly, there is a visible gap on the edges. Without the screw holes for alignment it was really tricky to get the inner leg support lined up properly. If you have someone to help it will go easier. One person must hold the inner to the outer while you screw it in. Other than the legs, everything went fine.
The table scratches, no doubt, just over a week in and I have major dark spots and streaks on the table. I happen to go to an arcade this weekend for a kids party and checked out their table. I never noticed it before but the "professional" table looks horrendous, but still plays well. So, while yes, the table will scratch and gouge quite easily, I can assume this happens on any table that has a "finish" on it. Not a deal breaker and it doesn't affect game play that I can see at all. I also noticed that it is my play style that is causing the scratches and dark spots, I must be dragging the edge of the paddle along the surface as I always choose the same side to play and my side has all the marks. So if you want to avoid marks, make sure your paddle is always level on the table when playing (air hockey rule book btw), I tend to lift it up and angle it a bit it seems.
I got a bad set. Still 100% playable, but a PITA for sure, the scores would not register until I hit the reset button multiple times. The problem with that is if you hit reset, you have to test it, once you test it, there is a score on the board. Which brings me to Customer Service.
I contacted the manufacturer (not Amazon) and explained the issue, they DID NOT HESITATE, they sent me new parts immediately and they work perfectly!
I for one, will always stick with a company that stands behind their products and these people most certainly do that. I cannot fault them for the bad electronics, it happens. If they had not responded it would be a different story.
For the cost, this table is definitely worth it.
I do have the same issue as others regarding the immediate black scuff marks on the table surface after an hour of game play but once again it does not affect game play. The size of the table is great and gives a quasi-arcade feel. The blockers do seem a bit big for the table as the goal slots are a bit small. I will attempt to contact the manufacture to see if they have smaller blockers. As for the blockers, I like the feel of the swivel designs but at times they can pinch your fingers a bit at first until you get used to them. The airflow is adequate and the puck floats at a medium speed. As with all air hockey tables and pucks, it seems there is always a dead side to a puck and the other side floats just fine. Overall, it is a great product. I would have given it 5 stars if the cosmetic concerns weren't present; hopefully I can contact the manufacturer to see if they will offer a token compensation such as a set of smaller blockers.
ATTENTION: Regrettable I must say this product definitely is poor quality. After 6 weeks of use by kids ranging from age 6 to 13, it is showing forth it's true colors of poor durability. It is not worth the $800, the time spent moving downstairs, time spent setting it up, and the brief period of time for substantial and reasonable durability. The cosmetic concern of leaving marks I could live with but the poor quality of the inner lining of the railing is very disappointing. The area around the goal is completely puck dead due to the cracked, split, and splintering of the rail. Very frustrating to have this detritus in my basement now. It's not like I had college age adults pounding the heck out of this table, it was used by kids ranging from age 5 to 14 yrs. Do companies or manufacturers ever test their products anymore to ensure reasonable quality and durability? I'm truly pissed; $800 down the drain and no convenient recourse.
The quality of the table is what I expected. The aluminum rails aren't aluminum but a plastic strip that fits around the bottom of the "rink". The table is for my teenage (14, 17, 19) children and myself. I didn't want to spend $2000 on a quality table. So far this table has taken a beating and is still working. The playing surface is great. The walls however have lots of nicks and dents (we play hard).
So, the assembly is a pain. If you are expecting a table like you would find at an arcade, this isn't it. It is however a nice mid level table and we are happy with it.
