This little guy is wonderful. Got it for our 2 week trip to Texas since I didn't want to pay for wifi at the hotels.(I made back the $40 monthly fee in just 4 nights on the road) Used my PC as well as my itouch all along the 1500 mile trip from California to Texas and then back again. Since it utilizes the Sprint phone lines you can get coverage anywhere you can get Sprint phone service. Which is just about everywhere. Virgin Mobile is still the only service that does not make you sign a contract,it's all month to month or week to week. Whichever you prefer. It's $40 a month unlimited service or $10 for 10 days limited. Start up and connection was a breeze, but if you run into any problems the Virgin Mobile people are just a phone call away. They are really great. After using it almost constantly for 2 weeks I started having a little problem with it(couldn't get it to stay on) when I called they said since I was still within the first month of service they would just replace it. It actually has a one year guarantee, but the first month is "no questions ask" kinda thing. I've had the replacement for 2 months and absolutely no problems. I used a generic car charger a lot on the trip and that may not have been the best thing for the little guy. I have since gotten a car charger specifically for the MIFI and it works perfectly. Bought an extra battery so I now have almost 9 hours of charge time. My son in Texas doesn't have home wifi, so I gave him a mifi 2200 for Christmas he loves it and keeps it going all the time. No problems at all with his. It's so small just slips into a pocket or purse then when one battery starts going out I just switch it with the other charged one. Like most reviewers it is a little tricky turning it off. It takes one or two tries, but I have found if you have all the devices that you had connected to it turned off before you try to turn off the mifi it will usually turn off the first time.

I struggled to activate this device. I called virginmobile twice. the first time they told me they would call me back within an hour. of course they didn't. the second time the young lady with a foreign accent told me the problem must be with my laptop. then it dawned on me to just change the msid and account from the previous owner to my msid and account number on the virginmobile screen. it worked perfectly. now I am good to go.

I like this product. It's ok for what I use it for. I use it to surf the web and check my email. I haven't used it often because it takes some getting used to. The getting used to part is the fact that it needs to be charged and there (of course) is no message letting you know the charge is low and it's about to shut off. It just shuts off and freezes on whatever page you're currently on. I have discovered that it is better to turn it on as soon as I turn on my laptop because otherwise it would still be searching for the MiFi signal. The speed is ok, I am used to faster but it's tolerable. I have noticed that it does get slower when it loses charge, but on the upside it will allow you to stay on the internet while it's plugged in and charging. It does keep a fair amount of charge even if it sits for a few days. I haven't been using the internet very heavy lately and it may just be me but I wouldn't suggest it for anything more strenuous than surfing and checking emails. I will update when I use it more.

Worked good for about a year

We had one of these for about 5 years and it was okay, but we needed to upgrade our internet so we gave it to my parents. Worked good for about a year, then stopped working. They bought another one in February and it stopped working at the end of March! The mifi itself is fine, when it works. It's the Broadband to Go Customer Service that is awful. I've literally dealt with them for a MONTH trying to get this resolved. You cannot get a live person at tech support unless you plan to hold about 20 minutes, then you are on the phone forever while they try to resolve the issue. (The mifi wouldn't connect to the internet.) I probably called 6 different times trying to get help. They finally put in a help "ticket" and guess what? They called back one time, left me a message, and when I called back...yep...on hold, had to go through the same process even though I was returning their call on an existing ticket!!! Then they couldn't help me and said I had to wait for them to call back. Needless to say, I was never called back again so the issue was never resolved. Luckily, my parents purchased the protection plan and at least that was easy to implement. Even though they aren't getting their money back, Amazon is at least crediting them the purchase price plus tax on a gift card. WHAT A HASSLE!!! We will not be buying another one of these simply because their customer service is SO BAD!!!!

I bought this to let me text from my iPod touch using google voice from anywhere. I was very surprised at the size of it - I expected something much larger. I can easily keep this and the ipod in the same pocket - the pair is still MUCH smaller than my old Treo.

The service will vary with where you use the thing, of course, and this also has an effect on battery life. The device will use more power when the 3g signal is weak - this is no different from any phone. I typically supplement the Mifi with an external battery it plugs into via USB. The Mifi's battery is 1150 mAh and a cheap 1500 mAh portable solar charger extends the time it can go substantially.

Overall the device has been reliable, but there are some quirks. Once or twice it has seemingly 'forgotten' its activation status, and I had to go through that again. If it is somewhere with a very poor or no signal, it behaves oddly - the wifi will become unreliable and drop you off, and refuse to accept your key again until you reset it. And finally, it gets HOT. If it's kept out in open air this is a nonissue, but if you keep it in a pocket it can become uncomfortable. It's nowhere near hot enough to damage itself or anything around it, unless you sit a chocolate bar on it or something.

Overall I am satisfied to have spent money on this device. Suggested accessories would include an external battery pack such as this device , or just a spare battery for it that you can swap in - these are inexpensive.
