Count Down by JS Bright
This was a new author for me and told in dual POV between Colin (personal trainer) and Landry (EMT) who meet in a gym. Both of them have been secretly crushing on the other and poor Colin wrecks several gym equipment before he realizes what is happening. Luckily, Landry is right beside him to support him. Lovely story and both men are so sweet with each other.
The Last Kitsune by Melissa E .Costa
This was a really interesting read that takes place in Japan and told from the POV of Shigeru. He meets a familiar old friend when he returns to his ancestral family shrine to spend some time with the priests and help them out. I love kitsunes so this was the perfect story for me and I got to return to Japan :)
By the Moonlight by Megs Pritchard
This story is about fated mates with an age gap between Jordy and Stone. Stone has waited all his life for his fated mate to be of age while Jordy has grown up with a constant friend in his life. I love dual POVs and Stone and Jordy were so attracted to each other. This had just the right amount of steam, kink, and love.
Prey to the Fox by Jessie G
Jessie G is a new author that I discovered and omg, this story had all the angst and tears. Poor Bas and Dario have to go through so much to get their HEA.
BlessED by the Dead by TL Travis
I love TL Travis' books so I was thrilled to hear that they were participating in this shifter anthology. Liam's overbearing Irish Catholic family make his life miserable on a daily basis. He is expected to join the family business and find a proper lady to marry and have children with. Little do they know that he is gay and doesn't want to join the family business. He meets a vampire Elijah one night and from there, their lives change forever. Wonderful story with plenty of steam and a HEA.
Finding his Groove by Sara York
Sarah York is a great author and this story was perfect. Secret agent on the hunt for a rogue shifter runs into his fated mate and uncovers some disturbing criminal activity along the way. Win and Avi are wonderful together but poor Avi really hit the horrible family jackpot. I loved the themes of found family, love, and happiness. Sometimes the family you were born into isn't the one. Avi and Win find their family in each other.
First Fire by Lynn Michaels
I love Lynn Michaels' books and she is a fantastic author. First Fire is a dual POV about War and Denver who are college boyfriends. They've been dating for a few months and one night, something unexpected happens. Lynn incorporated aspects of the First Nation in a very thoughtful and well-written manner. Both men have to struggle to find their center of happiness and discover the truth. Great story!
The Omega Thief by Victoria Sue
This story is a prequel for a brand-new series that the author will release in 2021. What a wonderful start and tantalizing teaser for everyone to enjoy. Cadmeera is a magical kingdom lead by the young Prince Raz'mar who will soon be king. In order for him to become king, he has to find his omega mate. Then he stumbles upon Aticker, a human and a thief, in a random meeting one day and discovers the truth. Great prequel told in a dual POV and I'm excited for Victoria Sue's new series in 2021 :)
Bee Cave Magic by Kelly Fox
Such a sweet and wonderfully amazing story that takes place in the small town of Bee Cave, TX. Micah has been emotionally abused by his family all his life and tried to hide his crush on former high-school classmate, Rex, who is a bear shift. Plenty of sass, funny moments, and body positivity in this great read by Kelly.
Paws in the Snow by Nicole Dennis
Nicole Dennis is a new author that I discovered in this shifter anthology, and I loved this story. It has a demisexual character (yay) who discovers that his flu isn't the actual flu. This is a college romance story between Derick who is. a student in his TA's class and has had a crush on Benoit for the entire semester. Derick discovers the truth about his family background and leans on Benoit for support and help. Great read and I was happy to discover a demi character in this anthology.
Shift to Gray by Kim Katil
Kim Katil was another new author for me, and I love gargoyle shifters! This whole story was great with a hint with Bryan, Dusty, and the secondary characters. I loved the hellhounds and how Bryan fed them all the time. Gargoyle bonds with their human partners was such a great theme in this story. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and I hope Kim writes more stories in this world :)
Mountain Air by Kris Jacen
Very cute and short story by Kris with really adorable and cute MCs, Garret and Robert, that take place near a national park. The open ending left me thinking that the author might be exploring more in this world and I hope that's the case. I would love to learn about what happens with the sister :)
Open season by Katey Hawthorne
Katey Hawthorne shows her Appalachian roots in this story with Mason and Owen. Mason is a coyote shifter who lives with his clan in holler that their ancestors settled hundreds of years ago. He meets Owen in an accident who is a scientist and researcher. Both of them have to work together to help Mason's clan move into the 21st century while keeping their secret safe from outsiders.
Sunbeams and Suntea by K-lee Klein
Joe and Cason have been in a relationship for a while now and have to deal with a suspicious long lost father who upends their lives. You can smell the fishiness from the creepy father in this story and what a real piece of work! I experienced everything through Joe's POV as secrets are unveiled and bonds are tested.
Prince of Indigo Island by Jacki James
I love Jacki James and the merman story was exactly what I needed in this anthology. Caspian hires Ford as a boat guide to try and conquer his fear of the water. Poor Caspian doesn't really know the truth about how his parents died and was raised in the desert by his grandmother. I hope Jacki continues to write more in this world because I would love to revisit Indigo Island again. Indigo Island sounds magical and wonderful which makes me wish this was a real place so I can visit :)
Leopard's Liar by Miski Harris
Miski Harris is an amazing author and did a fantastic job establishing a prologue that sets the mood for the entire story. I love the build-up and suspense that followed this story. M'Haven and Nevada had a crush on the other since their teenage years and finally confess their feelings. M'Haven's past collides with his present in a disturbing and suspenseful moment when an evil person shows up. Brilliant writing and world building by the author.
<b>By the Moonlight by Megs Pritchard</b>
This one started out really strong for me. I really like when one pair of a mate bond are completely oblivious to the world of shifters and mates, and the added layer of the other part of the pair knowing from birth but having to wait made this especially interesting. What didn’t work for me was the surprise bdsm. I think it takes a lot of skill to make bdsm work in a short story, as, for me, foundation must be laid for it to be believable; and unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. A solid story, I just would’ve liked it more without this factor.
<b>The Omega Thief by Victoria Sue</b>
Wow, Sue really outdoes herself with this one and is able to write an amazing story with pretty complex world building in such few pages. I found the whole idea of omega wolves not shifting without their alphas completely compelling, and want to know so much more about all the political issues discussed. Luckily, this seems to be the start of a new series and I couldn’t be more excited!
<b>Bee Cave Magic by Kelly Fox</b>
5 stars. This author has been popping up everywhere in recommendations, so I was excited to finally get something of theirs to read. And let me tell you, I could read ten books in this series I enjoyed it so much! I know Fox really only writes contemporaries, but this was such a sweet shifter tale that they might be missing their calling! I eat up stories with prey/predator mating pairs, but when the prey is a big ole softie? Yeah, that’s the best.
This collection is a fantastic mix of different types of stories...some with adventures, others with suspense, a few moments of humor, a taste of seriousness, a few with a lot of cute sweetness, and many with hot steaminess... and I loved it all.
An example of one cute story is Count Down by JS Bright. Colin and Landyn's lovestory is a fun read about a guy who didn't know he was a shifter, until getting hot and heavy with his crush... his mate who triggers the change. There is an element of danger and suspense. Exciting read for sure.
Another story I found interesting was The Last Kitsune by Melissa E Costa. Shigeru is sent on a mission by his family as a coming of age tradition. He meets Kai who turns out to show him much about his family, traditions, legends...And himself. It's mystical, sweet, exciting and steamy. It was one of my favorites and I actually would love to explore this type of story further.
Another story I found entertaining was The Omega Theif by Victoria Sue. A Royal falls for a theif lovestory that had suspense, steam, drama and sweetness.
But honestly all the tales included hrld my attention snd made me excited for the reading experience. This is a collection I am happy I got to read and can definitely see myself grabbing for again and again when I want a little mix of sweet, heat and all thats in-between.
