For starters, I didnt expect anything more than the lowest of quality from this sound device.
And, I was not let down when my expectations came through.

With a few adjustments, I was able to improve the output volume significantly! Just follow these simple steps:

1. Make certain to disable your other sound devices. This eliminates hardware conflicts and some static/feedback issues I was having.

2. Make CERTAIN you are using a USB 2.0 or otherwise POWERED USB port. This is a "well duh" since you need a powered port for the stuff inside to do what it does! :)

3. MAKE CERTAIN that you adjust the output volumes of BOTH the computers volume controls AND your actual media playing software. If you do not LOWER them significantly, and are using POWERED SPEAKERS, you will get HORRIBLE AUDIO.

4. After adjusting the software volume and OS based amplifications, then adjust your POWERED SPEAKERS to raise the volume to a level you find appealing.

Headphone users will not need to deal with most of this because they are not using speakers with another amplifier.
What most of you are going to experience, is an obscene amplification of your audio PRIOR to being output by yet another amplification process. Simple terms: The sound is already "loud" before your speakers "turn it up"

Just make the output sound less in volume before it reaches your speakers, and you can avoid this over amplification issue and enjoy decent sound from this cheapy solution. I am satisfied with my purchase now that I have spent the time to adjust it to what it actually needed in the first place. (as soon as I reread the description I realized that it had it's own amplifier. so it was then an issue of removing the extra volume and PRESTO!)

So dont worry about these other reviews, the device works, and well enough to justify the price. Just realize that you are paying for the most basic of solutions, and not a full on replacement for the audio port you likely ripped out while tripping over your cables :P

Works Perfectly - HP2000

If you're like me and own an HP2000, your ear and mic 3.5 plugins stopped working unexpectedly. If you're looking for something something to work around that confounded issue, look no further, this works.

I had to go into my audio settings and disable the Realtek High Audio and enable the USB Audio Device, after that, the USB works like a dream and no distortion through my earbuds.

If you have crappy 3.5mm plugins, this'll fix it. Since I'm gearing up to start a YouTube channel, I had to do something and can't afford a new laptop. You'll have no issues with this device and it came extremely fast. A win-win for certain.

Works well. I bought this to use with a Raspberry Pi 3 and Pi Zero. It is possible to connect a speaker to it and get sound out of a Zero. It is compatible. I have checked the microphone and that's compatible as well. I like that the casing is transparent. These things can be faulty sometimes, but this should be easy to open up and fix if something DID happen. There are YouTube videos on it.

I checked and it worked with my laptop as well. Can be used as a solution when a desktop or laptop's internal soundcard fails. Happened with my parents' desktop. Soundcard failed, but they got something like this locally and get the sound out that way. Great little device to own.

I bought this maybe 5 years ago so I could monitor my mixes while DJing since my computer only had one soundcard. It ...works... I don't have many good things to say about it, so here's what you need to know:

-Build quality is poor. Pick it up and fiddle with it for 5 seconds and you'll understand. It's a PCB just BARELY mounted inside a plastic case. Every time I plug it in, I'm scared to even look at it lest it breaks off inside my USB port or something. Having my headphones plugged into it strains the case. Just having it plugged in strains the connection. Seriously, what a joke!
-It is LOUD! I'm more than happy to research, experiment, and dick around with my computers. I'm not helpless. In the 5 years I have owned and used this thing I have tried so many times to find a way to lower the output of this stupid soundcard and have yet to find a viable solution. Can't accomplish it through Windows or Linux sound preferences, tried downloading a few programs which were supposed to help tune/lower sound output... nothing. When I plug it in, I set the volume to 1/100 and it still feels like it's going to blow the drivers in my headphones. I'm not joking, it's the thing I hate most about this product. Speaking of...
-Someone else mentioned that this device would not pass UL inspection, as it uses high DC power which in turn could theoretically damage your devices. Some people have reported that it heats up their headphones as a result. One other person mentioned that they just cut out two capacitors from the board and left the mounting pads on, which short out. I don't have a voltage reader or quite enough electronics knowledge to verify these claims. However, since I've had so many problems with this sound card, I would not be surprised if that were true.

Even though it's cheap, and served its purpose while I was DJing throughout college, I would not recommend this product to anyone. Spend a little more money and get a quality product that has sturdy construction, more information/literature to help set up and troubleshoot, and won't potentially harm your equipment.

Great sound dongle

This device works great! My server is out in the garage and Ive run a single USB over CAT-5 and a VGA over CAT-5 through the walls into the living room. The USB is connected to a 5 port hub which is where I have this sound adapter, my printer, a bluetooth dongle, and an SD card reader connected. Its allowed me to plumb a PC to our flat panel TV without having electronics cluttering the room, without heat issues, and without needing to downscale the PC to eliminate noise. I had reservations that this device could deliver quality sound but honestly it does fine!
