This is a romance between two entirely different people whose only thing in common is a taste for M&Ms. Sophie, a museum conservator who restores objects has lost her job due to Covid 19 virus. A certified germaphove even before Covid, she has been holed up in her NYC apartment since Covid began. She has no family, gets her food from a restaurant in her building and keeps in touch with her friend, Casey, distance talking between their outside balconies. Her rent is overdue, bills unpaid, and she is down to her last teaspoon of disinfecting alcohol. Jacob, a highly paid wealthy talent manager, whose work has slowed because all public entertainment being shut down. He has broken up with a fiancee who doesn't want anyone to know of the breakup due to her career including Jacob's large family.
The story centers around his desire to get a chair restored for his grandmother for a Christmas present.
Since Sophie won't leave her apartment, it leads to zoom meetings still wearing a mask, a zoom Thanksgiving dinner and extreme covid caution. The wack job fiancee, Jacob testing positive, the Hurry Curry owner, the problems getting the chair done in lockdown all add to the story of these two improbable people trying to get together romantically. I can't wait for Virginia Gray's next book.

Good concept, but not a good read

The pandemic had hit and the world was shut down. For Sophie, a reclusive germaphobe, staying away from people was no big deal. Jobless, penniless, hopeless.

A lockdown was also a great way at discovering your fiancé’s annoyances and break up with her, which is what happened with Jacob.

This seemed like an interesting love story in the midst of a global shutdown and deadly virus. It makes you wonder how a germaphobe who’s afraid to leave her house date? Sophie is a neurotic, obsessive nutjob. Story mostly centers on the separate lives of these two in a pandemic, which can be lagging and fairly uninteresting. It’s not even remotely funny.

All in all, this wasn’t what I expected. This New Normal series sounded like a good concept, but the story is just not a good read.

This was a fast and fun read taking place in Manhattan during the pandemic. Very cute love story that begins in the middle of the lockdown. It was so relatable as it is recent. The characters are adorable. From the computer glitches during zoom calls to a first kiss through masks and the underlying fear of getting sick, it is truly love in the age of COVID.

I tried really hard to love this but it was a struggle to get through. The characters were sweet but the story felt very slow.

It may be that it was just too soon for me personally to read a pandemic romance novel, however I have been keeping an eye out and was very intrigued by this book and the story line.

The boo had some great moments while the main characters were connecting but there were too many sections that felt long and unnecessarily drawn out.
