From the Author
I confess, Isobel and Yancy are two of my favorite characters. I admire Isobel's intelligence and independence but also her loyalty and gentleness. Though Yancy is an alpha male, he has a tender streak, and he is also fiercely loyal.
You'll notice a few French words in the text, as Giselle Ferguson is a Frenchwoman, and her children all speak French fluently. The Roma cant was carefully researched, but honestly, I do not know how to pronounce most of the words.
One more point I'd like to share is that Scottish gypsies were called Black Tinkers or Travellers. That is the correct spelling for traveller for that era and location. Though some of the gypsies did have a Roma heritage, not all did.
Those of you who have read my Castle Brides series will see several familiar characters mentioned. The Duke of Harcourt and Tasara Faasstar in the third book in the series, Heartbreak and Honor.

I liked both Isobel and Yancy (him, more than her). I thought the writing was excellent and the story itself was very interesting. What I didn't like was the misconception that Isobel harbored about Yancy. It dragged on way too long and even though there were several opportunities for her to voice it - she didn't.
Not only that, but when she found out that she was wrong - she did a complete 180 and hops into bed with him?!?
I would recommend this book - but if drawn out misconceptions bother you, you might get annoyed with this book.
They keep their feelings to themselves until Isobel is kidnapped. Yancy goes after her, finds her and they wind up in an abandoned crofters hut to wait out a storm. Isobel is sure that Yancy is going to marry someone else because that girl told her so. Not realizing the Yancy wanted no part of the other girl.
I loved to back and forth between Yancy and Isobel. She gives him a what for and a how to a couple of times. Yancy has a bit of trouble trying to figure her out. Yancy's friends are a hoot too. Always giving him grief. Especially Harcourt.
Please read this book. It's a great read and I hope you smile at the end also.
Bartholomew Yancy is England's War Secretary and was never meant to inherit a title but has now found himself the Earl of Ramsbury. This means he must find a wife. The only woman who has ever stirred him is the sister of one of his best friends but lately she has treated him like he has the plague. Sent to Scotland to deal with a clan issue he will face her at her brother's keep.
Isobel Ferguson is sick of men who want her for looks only. She has a keen mind but the only man to appreciate has turned out to be a rouge, her brother's friend Yancy. During her London season she found our her was to be betrothed yet he still seemed interested in her.
Isobel then finds herself kidnapped and mistaken for someone else. Will Yancy reach her in time and will he be able to convince her he is not the rouge she believes. Read to find out. Collette leads you on a wonderful adventure.
Bartholomew Yancy, now Earl of Ramsey must resign his position with the Crown, due to his inheritance of an English Earldom. Previously with no intention of marrying, he finds he must and produce a heir to carry on the line There is only one lady he can think of to satisfy that position.
Isobel Ferguson is a beautiful Scotswoman and is tired of men pursuing her. She sees Yancy as no different and rebuffs his pursuit. But fate has a way of stepping in and although the strong Scot needs his help to settle some clan disputes, she is determined to defy him.
But as danger calls and Isobel finds herself taken captive, can Yancy save her?
I could see in my mind the scenes unfolding as the narrative continued and could only smile as we got to the end! Loved this story!!
The hero, Bartholomew Yancy, not being the firstborn, had no plans to marry but instead chose a career as England’s War Secretary. But things do not always go as planned as he finds when he unexpectedly inherits an earldom. Now he must resign his career and marry and produce heirs.
Only one woman comes to his mind when he thinks of marriage, Isobel Ferguson, who was sent to Scotland to mediate the feuds and upsets between clans. This is one lady who is daring and loves to do unconventional things such as ride astride and go exploring. She does feed a pull towards the hero but rumors abound that Bartholomew is no different than men in her past showing interest in her for her beauty, never giving a thought as to whether or not she has a brain. She ignores any attention he sends her way because she has no tolerance for men who think beauty is the only thing a lady has to offer.
Isobel is abducted by a band of outlaw Scots and Bartholomew rushes to rescue her, resulting in her father and brother insisting upon a wedding. Bartholomew has no hesitance and agrees, but Isobel will in no way be railroaded into marriage. The banter between the couple definitely pulls the reader into the story.
I highly recommend to anyone who loves reading romance, Virtue and Valor and any other books written by Collette Cameron. She leaves the reader always looking forward to the next new release.
Top international reviews
The story itself was predictable, the heroine disobeys instructions, gets into difficulties and the hero rescues her. I didn't like how Isobel acted towards Yancy, why couldn't she tell him about her concerns? It seemed to be just a plot device to create some unnecessary angst and make the book a bit longer.
I loved this story it was beautifully written and had me so entranced I stayed up until I finished it.💋💋💋💋💋
