She selects Viscount Sheffield, who appears to be a work-a-holic but finds himself being included in Amelia's incessant planning. Sheffield,
in turn, shows Amelia there's more to life than constant planning. This is really a short book---a novella. When I received it, I admit I was stymied when I saw how small the book was and the actual book itself looked as though it had been typed on an old electric typewriter. But the plot moved along and surprisingly I found myself enjoying it. If you're looking for an easy "read," this is it.
This is a fun, well written book with twists turns and plenty of action.
I am tempted to describe Lady Amelia Pembroke as the ultimate “personal assistant” for her brother’s household, but that is too mild a description. The good Lady Amelia is so good at planning and organizing, anticipating for any contingency, that it seems supernatural. So when Lady Amelia decides that the Sheffield 75th annual Christmas Ball is the ideal venue for her to find a husband, nothing was getting in her way. The fact that the venue is burnt to a crisp and Lord Benedict Sheffield has canceled the gala is but a small hiccup for our fearless superhero peer! Lord Sheffield is no match for Lady Amelia’s machinations and before he knows it the Sheffield Christmas Ball is taking place exactly how Lady Amelia envisioned it! Well maybe not exactly, for as good as Lady Amelia is at planning for every possible event in her life, she never saw love coming her way.
I found the writing well-done, with the banter between the characters witty and fun. It certainly has peeked my interest to read some more of Ms. Ridley’s books!
