My husband was at the first public lecture in the series...there were so many people attending that they couldn't all fit in the hall rented for the lecture. Ayn Rand took a copy of the first lecture and read it to people who'd been moved to a second room. Then she and Branden switched rooms and did their question and answer sessions with the opposite audience.
As far as I know, this was the first time her ideas were pulled together and presented as a formal philosophy.
Aside from the above corrections, this book is excellent. It includes many of Ayn Rand's ideas which were not, strictly speaking, part of her formal philosophy. For example, we get a full treatment of her theory of human sexuality, something AR never wrote about in depth. We also get a rich presentation of her view of economics, again something she never wrote fully about. This book is a must have to all serious students of Objectivism, as it offers a first sustained view of AR's philosophy as she herself saw it. Some of her philosophic formulations were to change over the years, and these earlier formulations shed a bright light on her early views. The tone and tenor of the lectures also offer a different perspective - a good one - on the structure and meaning of many of her ideas.
