Editorial Reviews

Review

"How fortunate for the growing number of Dhamma students to have this collection of essays . . . in an authoritative, direct, clear and hope-inspiring voice." —Sylvia Boorstein, author, Don't Just Do Something, Sit There!

From the Publisher

Venerable Nyanaponika wrote about the Buddhist vision with extraordinary clarity and depth, presenting it as the most viable solution to the crisis and confusion faced by humankind today. The "Vision of Dhamma" refers to the penetrating insight into the real nature of existence that can be glimpsed. This collection was originally published in Sri Lanka and is now republished in the West in response to a global flourishing of interest in these teachings.

Format: Paperback
I like this book because it is not a simple feel-good book on Buddhism (there are plenty of those around (not to knock the genre)) but rather an exploration of some of the deeper aspects of the teachings of the Buddha. The author uses lots of passages from the original writings and then disects their meaning in clear language. There are also some essays on comtempory issues such as "the God idea", devotion, and karma and how it works--evidently karma IS modifiable-I still have a chance!
I trust the author's authenticity and authority--he was a scholar, a monk for 55 years and a committed and long time meditator--what a combination for producing a clear "Vision of Dhamma"!

A highly recommended book for anyone interested in the science of mind. Nyanaponika Tera was one of the greatest authorities on Theravada Buddhism. In fact I come from the Hindu tradition and I find Nyananponika's works of incredible value written with great clarity. Truly an amazing teacher and monk he was.

Format: Paperback
One of the most direct books on the Dhamma. No retorical ramblings, cuts straight to the point and offers practical advice in a guided manner on how to overcome suffering (from someone I am sure who has overcome it).
A must for all Buddhists!

The Buddhist's doctrine related to the theory and practice of life are based on "dependent arising". The principles of non-self (Anattâ) and the dependent origination (Paṭicca-samuppâda) of all phenomena of existence are the mutually reinforcing institutions which lie at the heart of the Buddha's enlightenment. Through Venenrable Nyanaponike Thera's teaching, we are able to examine the Buddhist theory of relativity.

Great book, with a lot of information on Dhamma. Every time I read it, I get something new from it. I highly recommend it for those who are interested in Buddhism or meditation. If you have no knowledge of Buddhism, I would suggest reading some books about the Buddha, or going to some anapana or vipassana retreats before tackling this book.
