Product Description
A sweeping tale of love and war, The Vision of Escaflowne was a seminal series that influenced anime's worldwide popularity. Directed by Kazuki Akane, this beautifully animated adventure features epic music, memorable characters, and an unforgettable love story.
Hitomi Kanzaki is an ordinary high school girl who runs track and has an affinity for tarot reading. But when a brash young man named Van appears from a beam of light at her high school, Hitomi is spirited away to a myserious new world called Gaea.
On Gaea, Hitomi is a stranger in a strange land. Soldiers in magnificent armored mechs, or Guymelefs, wreak havoc around her. Humanoid animals walk and talk like people, and foreign empires are embroiled in an increasingly violent war. On top of that, Hitomi discovers her ability to read tarot cards is due to a secret power more potent than she'd ever imagined, and her newfound ability makes her both an asset and a target.
To save the world of Gaea and return to her own, Hitomi must unravel the mystery of her powers, Van's past, and the powerful Escaflowne.
The Collector's Edition comes in a collectible box with an art book.

Product itself is gorgeous. The box art has a nice gloss look that makes the colors pop really well.
Blu ray cases are blue instead of the clear ones shown on the website. Not a big deal since cases are cheap to replace anyway.
Disc art has a nice watercolor look. Note that the 'faded' appearance is deliberate and consistent with the art design.
The TV Series is split across five discs, each containing a max of seven episodes (Note: The first seven episodes are duplicated across two discs with one being 'Uncut Version' and containing the new Funimation dub alone and the 'Broadcast Version' containing the original Bandai dub alone. The three remaining discs contain both dubs from that point forward.) Analyzing the bitrates on all discs determined that the PQ wasn't compromised in comparison to their Japanese blu ray counterparts. The film also contains dual dubs for consistency.
If you are a real good fan of this series and would like a bit of an upgrade in comparison to the standard editions this is a worthy purchase if you are willing to go with its asking price.
For one, Kickstarter backers received clear cases. Some of us received the Blue Amaray cases instead. Secondly, the artwork was to be 40 pages but instead we received a 20 page book. All of our sets were to receive a copy on DVD - nobody got theirs. Our pendants were broken or chipped. The tarot cards range from excellent condition to having blurred images or ink blotches due to shoddy production process. The posters were crinkled and packaging for the entire set was a long box with a single piece of brown packing paper inside leaving all your possessions to tumble around loosely, which dented our chip board boxes, in some cases crushing the Blu-ray jewel cases or worse. The chip board box are also tearing since the glue and production process had the seams on the top and bottom edges so close to a corner that if you ran your finger across it, you can accidentally pull or tear the outer image off. All in all, the colors and everything provided as a promise for the art and disc graphics are very water colored and dull compared to the vibrant images we were promised in the final product.
I am in the process of preparing to play each disc to ensure they work as most of us who did a Kickstarter pledged to receive an on-screen credit for this entire series the past eight months. However, for $175 (even $149) I would not buy again and if you were one of the unfortunate souls who received cases that look like a dog chewed them, a dented or torn box, crushed posters or any sort of defect with this set, Funimation has urged you to send them an E-Mail. As of this writing, almost all the Kickstarter and persons who have ordered this set are writing them for a refund or an entirely new copy and I know I personally requested either reimbursement while I wait for my DVD copy as well as a new set to replace the one I received because this is not the quality you should expect for the money paid.
TL;DR wait for the sale.
