Product Description

Size: 500 Watts

The VisionTek 500 Watts Internal power supply features Protection, when Over-Current, Over-Voltage, or Short circuit protection is triggered the power supply will shut itself off. The device will return to normal operation when the fault has been removed and the power switch is reset. The power supply DC outputs are protected from supplying current above the maximum ratings and when output power is between 110%~150%. With the exception of the 5VSB output, all DC outputs are switched off in the event of an over-current on any of the DC outputs. The Over-voltage sense circuitry resides in packages that are separate from the regulator control circuitry. No single point fault is able to cause a sustained over-voltage condition on any outputs. The DC outputs from this power supply are protected from damage due to faults. In the event of a short circuit on any output, all outputs will be disabled and remain so until the power supply is turned off and powered back on. This power supply is far more than I need, but at the sale price it didn't make any sense to buy a lesser PS. Even at the full price it would be well worth it.

All wires are wrapped and are of a much heavier gauge than any of my previous power supplies.

I can only find 2 problems. The first is that it's so quiet that everything else seems suddenly louder. The old PS was loud in comparison.

The other possible problem would only apply to those with a small computer case. As I said, these wires are thicker than most power supplies. Add to that the fact that they are quiet long with a lot of connectors and you might run out of room in a small case. I used electrical tape to bundle the unused wires and shove them out of the way.

PROs - Very quiet, long heavy gage wrapped wires, lots of connectors, lots of power for future upgrades.
CONs - None really unless you have a small case.

Note - My motherboard has a 4 pin CPU connector on the board. This power supply has what it describes as a "CPU 4Pin+4pin" connector (it looks like an 8 pin connector). Looking carefully you can see that it will slide apart to become 2 four pin connectors. Elsewhere I saw someone complaining about another PS that was missing the 4 pin connector. They probably had the same setup and didn't notice it.

This power supply works perfectly and is almost silent! The only problem i have with it is that on the 650 watt version they did not wrap the wires and it just looks like an eye sore in my case.

The cables are very thick and this is a very good thing, You don't want cheap thin cables that can't output the wattage that the power supply has or they could get hot and possibly cause damage. The only reason i gave this PSU a 4 star rating is because all the wires were not wrapped, The only one that is wrapped is the 24 pin motherboard connector. Other then the wire wrapping there is nothing wrong with this PSU and i would recommend it to any one.

My setup.

AMD Phenom ii x6 1055T
8gb's ddr3 1333 memory.
PNY Geforce GTX 550TI.
Western digital scorpio black hdd.
EVGA Geforce Gt 240(for PHYSX).
VisionTek 900347 650 watt PSU.
Cooler Master RR-910-HTX3-G1 130-Watt 92mm Hyper TX3 CPU Cooler.
And a bunch of fans throughout the case.

All this is being powered by this Power supply and is having no trouble doing it!

Visiontek has some decent products, and this 500watt PSU powers my systems nicely without any problems so far(over a year). I have it hooked up to a gigabyte motherboard holding a I7-2700k CPU and 4x4gb 2000mhz corsair RAM.

UPDATED(DEC 2013)- This PSU is still being used as my primary power for the products listed above and has yet to fail.
I also purchased the 650watt unit that runs all of my drives and PCI-e cards(2x 6970 GPU and sound card). Both power supplies are running well with zero issues.

Total cost was less than buying an 80plus(gold,etc) type PSU with the total output of 1150watts(combined power of both PSU's). Although i don't recommend the average user trying a dual PSU setup, for those who want to start small both the 500 and 650watt units work flawlessly.

RECOMMENDED!

Ordered 500 Watt version on November 9th, 2011, complete failure on October 13th, 2012. The smell that remains is indescribable...

Although the wires are nicely bundled in black braid, so it looks good, a decent power supply should last more than 11 months. I read the reviews (as I always do), and made a judgement call when I ordered this. Usually if there are 3 or more negative reviews, I will not order a product. Should have listened to my gut...

After the power supply died, I sent an email to the seller (as the product claims to have a two year warranty) - no response to date. I assume that I won't actually get a response.

I will not order a replacement VisionTek, nor will I order any VisionTek, or use this seller (Galactics) again. It's not Amazon's fault, but they should check out their sellers a bit better.

This power supply has been very good to me. It hasn't pooped out at all, and there have been no power surges (at least I haven't noticed any). There was a bit of trouble installing it, and a few of the cables broke (these were because of user error), but because It had so many spares we were able to manage. Overall I would highly recommend this power supply.

I've had this PSU for 7 months and it's great

The only downside is that it's not modular and there are a *ton* of cables. I got this at a cheap price around xmas, but I wish that I would have spent the extra $20 and get myself a modular instead.

If you don't care about having tons of cables, this is the psu for you; No issues, and it has survived many thunderstorms and power outages

This is 80 Plus Gold

It has been running my PC for 1 year and 8 months pretty much NON-STOP, and still going strong!

I am surprised at how quiet it runs even under stress. Any mid-range graphics card will easily drown out anything else in the room, but even when the PSU fan kicks on, it is very quiet.

I don't know why it says "silver chassis", seeing as how mine is matte black...maybe a simple typing mistake.

What else to say...it delivers the power! Get one if you need a PSU!
