Great mix of unique stories and eye opening essays for anyone interested in what the future may hold

Great mix of unique stories and eye opening essays for anyone interested in what the future may hold. I was nervous about the non fiction essays yet thankfully they are in some regards, as captivating as the first half of the book.

This is a fantastic collection of short stories. The stories are all related to the future of humanity, but there is wonderful variety from one story to the next and it is exciting to see so many different takes on where we might be headed. I'm not a huge reader and am easily distracted, but the uniqueness of each story in this book keeps me excited to move from one to the next. I look forward to my daily train commute and the chance to read something new every day.

I found most of the fiction quite interesting and intriguing. The same for the non-fiction. The pessimism of some of the non-fiction was off-putting, because the world has undergone many changes in the distant past (we weren't even here) and survived. Overall, I think this collection of stories is worth someone's time required to read and contemplate how much of it is plausible.

A collection of short stories about future events we will eventually be forced to face: when AI becomes more intelligent than us, when biologic life is replaced by technological life, when we reach the stars, are we still earthlings.
I was intrigued and pleased with the variety of stories and the possible outcomes given by the authors. Everyone will like something in the book, I liked a great deal.

A real disappointment. It turned out to be just a collection of science fiction stories. Some of them not bad, but didn't care for the rest. I don't know what I was I was expecting. The only reason I was attracted to the book to begin with, was that Ray Kurzweil was one of the contributors. His article was quite short and not particularly well-written.

Is our Vision of the Future clear? Can we see what is coming? These selections certainly help us think through the possibilities. To boldly go...

Maybe the best Sci-Fi short story collection I ever read. With a bonus of essays on the future at the end.

this is like Tales of the Unexpected SF Version
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 9, 2016Verified Purchase
For those old enough to remember, this is like Tales of the Unexpected SF Version. Lots of fascinating ideas from clever people but so many of them don't work as stories, i.e., an interesting premise is set and ends with an 'you'll have to guess what happened next' ending.

Most of the stories are uninteresting, except the one by David Brin

Boring at times when it doesn't chime with your own beliefs but ultimately uplifting and challenging. I would like to read another one straight away.
