Editorial Reviews

Review

"5 beautiful, dark and intense Stars! I was expecting dark. I was expecting intense. I was expecting evil. What I wasn't expecting was beauty! Trisha's words inject beauty and light into an utterly dark world! I found myself constantly re-reading passages in order to savor the beauty of her words." ~Debbie is Flippin Pages

"Who is the UNSUB? That is the question that we have been wondering from the very beginning of this series. And now, finally, our questions will be answered. Trisha Wolfe has really outdone herself with this final book in the broken bonds series. She has spent a web filled with mystery, intrigue and twists you don't see coming." ~Amy Bosica, Once Upon a Book Blog

"Sadie and Colton have shared a lot of their demons and because of that their connection is stronger than ever. Their sexual encounters are still scorching, emphasizing the level of trust they have in one another. Colton has got to be one of my favourite male leads; the way he worshiped Sadie, but remained pretty dominant in his own way."
~Naomi's Reading Palace

"Bottom Line: Steamy, intense and dark, leaves you breathless and wanting more!"
~Brandi Breathes Books

Review of the complete series; 3 books and the epilogue, Forever Bound

Sadie Bonds, is a profiler for the Arlington, VA police department. She is all kinds of messed up due to being kidnapped, raped, and tortured by a serial killer when she was 16. Colton Reed is a rope bondage (shibari) expert who works in his brothers fetish club, The Lair. Sadie visits The Lair to vicariously experience the euphoria and release that the subs of the bondage rigger experience. The Lair is where Sadie and Colton meet.

There is a serial killer on the loose and Sadie is on the case. A secret that Colton Reed and his brother share endangers them all and puts them in the crosshairs of the killer.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I highly recommend it. It’s smart, sexy, visceral, and very well written. I bought it because I like books with a BDSM theme. If you are expecting something like Fifty Shades of Grey you will be sorely disappointed. Kink is not the main theme of this story but is the common interest that Colton and Sadie share. It has some really erotic scenes but this is truly an on-the-edge-of-your-seat murder mystery. The story concentrates on how profilers solve crimes by thinking like a serial killer, putting themselves into the mind-set of those killers and almost having their own minds rewired to be like a killer.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. When you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you. ~Friedrich Nietzsche

It was only by accident that I found out that books 2 & 3 were published, since I read the first one long ago. This was a complex & beautiful plot. I have to admit I had to go back & read Book 1 because I couldn't remember a thing. I still think this whole plot would've been much better & nail-bitining had it been written in one release. I got a bit confused at some parts in books 2 & 3, but I found myself not caring, & just wanted to find out who the UNSUB is.

Riveting story. There were a few word substitution errors such as knew for new. I think I'm becoming inured to these due to predictive spelling in texts but I wish I wasn't. That said, autoerotic affixiation would be interesting to see, like kinky decoupage and would be a lot safer than asphyxiation.

Book 1: Heart-pounding. Breathtaking. Edge-of-your-seat suspense. Trisha Wolfe has taken her dark and twisty writing to a whole new level. And I don't know how long I can wait for the next one!

WITH VISIONS OF RED had me turning pages as fast as I could, sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time! I read it in one sitting, because how can you not? The characters are very three dimensional, and their stories are filled with unexpected twists and turns. Trisha Wolfe did a phenomenal job of getting inside all three of the main characters' heads. And an amazing job of revealing just the right amount of information at exactly the right time.

Book 2: For those of you who don't know this about me, I am a HUGE Criminal Minds fan. As in I have seen every episode, at least once. And Sadie and Colton's (and the UNSUB's) story has my inner behavior analyst running on all cylinders! Trisha Wolfe's ability to take the reader inside the minds of her characters is astounding.

I ADORE Sadie and Colton together. They are amazing for each other, even in their brokenness. So many other people are trying to get in the way of their happiness, it's driving me CrAzY! And who knew the UNSUB could be SO twisted? I knew he was messed up (obviously), but this guy? You will love to hate him. (Unless it ends up being a her...)

This second book in the Broken Bonds series definitely brought me more questions than answers, and more suspects than I could have imagined. But that's what's so amazing about the writing in this series; it's still keeping me guessing! One of the secondary character's theories was EXACTLY the theory I had running through my mind...

This has been a very hard review for me to write. Mostly because it has taken me so long to sort out my feelings about this series of books. It is not a series for everyone, that's for sure. It's dark, it's gruesome and it's a mindf@ck! I have to say that even though the books in this series are only like 150 pages, I found that it took me longer than usual to read them because on many occasions I would have to backtrack and re-read parts to ensure I read it right. Hence, the reason I called it a mindf@ck! Just when you think you have things figured out, something happens that shoots your theory all to pieces. For those of you readers out there that like a mixture of hot sex, gruesome & gore, with a full twist of mindf@ck, then this book is for you. But it is not for the faint of heart. But it definitely kept my mind busy right up until the end.

“You don’t come out of the other side of a dark moment in time to the light. It doesn’t conclude on a fairytale ending. Prince Charming doesn’t swoop in and save the damsel in distress. The heroine doesn’t suddenly experience a life-altering realization that she can conquer her demons and become a beacon—a role model for all suffering souls to follow in her footsteps… This is not that story. My abductor will forever taint my reality. The nightmares will live on inside my soul, and I will cry out in the middle of the night. Though there is now someone there to warp his arms around me when the dreams claw me back down to the dungeon, they will never truly cease to exist within me.” -- Sadie Bonds (Book 3)

With Visions of Red is a series of three novellas, not full-length novels, so you’d need to read the entire series to have any conclusion.

The books were well written with good flow and suspense that will keep you guessing until the end. And even then you still probably won’t figure out who the UNSUB is. The descriptive crime scene details certainly aren’t for the squeamish and you won’t find Sadie and Colton to be your typical lead characters. They are a little dark and a little twisted just like the story.

WVOR became more intriguing half-way through book 2 when the story really started to unfold and Sadie and Colton become more bonded with each other. While their bond is strong, it still feels rushed (kind of insta-love) especially based on Sadie’s past and inability to trust. But it was nice that Colton didn’t fall into predictable arrogant alpha-male billionaire that seems to be typical for similarly categorized books.

Readers who enjoy CSI Drama/Thriller/Suspense/BDSM reads should find With Visions of Red appealing.

This was my first Trisha Wolfe read and I received a free copy from the author for an honest review.
