Why is clay better?
The unique properties of clay make it ideal for flavor enhanced cooking without added salt, sugar or oils.
- Clay is porous. Heat and moisture circulate through the pot during cooking, unlike metal or enamel-lined pots; Clay acts as a natural insulator that holds and absorbs heat to cook foods slowly and evenly bringing out earthy flavors and textures. Naturally thermal, clay cooks 4 times faster and stays warm longer. Cut your energy usage in half.
- Clay is alkaline. Clay interacts with acidity in the food, neutralizing the pH balance. Highly acidic foods like tomato sauce will become naturally sweet when cooked in clay. Foods cooked in clay taste more robust with authentic flavors and textures.
Small changes to your diet can make dramatic effects in your overall health. With VitaClay Technology, you can make a host of important changes—all in one– while saving yourself precious time and money.
Natural, unglazed, highly prized Zisha clay infuses flavors and the airtight dual lid seals in flavors and preserves important nutrients, enzymes and vitamins.
With a Zisha clay pot, your food is always free from added non-stick chemical glazes, lead and aluminum.

Top customer reviews
Despite the concerned from some of the reviews on Amazon.com regarding the VitaClay products, mostly about how fragile the inner container is. I have decided to give it a try because of the potential benefit of a clay pot offers.
The concept of having a clay pot in the multi-cooker intrigues me. For years, I have been told by my older family members that clay cooking are healthier for you plus the benefit of tasting better due to the porous nature of the material where heat and moisture circulates more evenly than other materials like stainless steel cookware.
In some of the reviews I saw, I didn’t notice any aluminum on the bottom of the pot, I believed I have purchased a newer model so that problem has been solved.
The other major concern most reviewers had been about how fragile clay cookware are. There is an untold technique of treating your clay pot before using them and I am not certain why it is not written on any instructions. The key is to SOAK your clay pot OVERNIGHT before use to prevent cracking in the future. Some clay pots I have purchased have indicated soaking in water for 2 hours, but if you don’t want to buy another one, I would soak it overnight. Please also make sure you DO NOT put it in cold water for cleaning when the clay pot is hot or warm because you will surely put a crack to it. It is a very dedicate product, so you have to be gentle with it.
At the end, I am glad I have purchase this VitaClay rice cooker because I have been making wonderful tasting rice everyday for almost a month now.
1. Cheapest lead-free crockpot I've seen - I won't buy the black glazed stuff at the store
2. Makes a full pot of stew for 3-5 people, depending on portion size
3. Small, compact, easy to store
4. Comes with a recipe book that supports, Vegans, Vegetarians, Paleo, and Low Fat folks alike
5. You don't have to be precise with cooking time at such low temperatures (see below for more details)
The more I read about metal cookware, the more I'm convinced I need to stick to glass, lead-free clay and porcelain, not to mention the cheap clay pots that are painted with glazes that may contain lead among other toxins.
Actually, I'm all about Paleo, and I started reading about slow cooking as a very healthy way to cook your meat - it preserves the integrity of the fats, enzymes and proteins. Heating meat up above say 200 destroys a lot. Based on that reading, I looked quite a bit for a crock-pot I felt I could trust, to no avail. All of the earth based crock pots are glazed, and none say lead free on the box. I also read that some crockpots might be painted with toxic paint, so I didn't take any chances on buying any of these.
I knew about VitaClay about a year ago, but it was $100, so I didn't buy it. I was so excited to see this smaller, less expensive version available on Amazon. I did a quick read of the VitaClay website where I read they test for absense of lead in their clay, and then I bought it.
I just did my first beef stew in my mini VitaClay today. I just followed the Beef Stew recipe in the recipe book that comes with the pot. It was really easy. If you fill the pot to the top with meat and veggies, you'll be able to serve 3 to 4 people (depending on portion size). I put all the ingredients last night before going to bed. By mid morning I had my first taste. Delicious!!! It came out wonderfully. I only had a small bowl the morning, I left the rest in the pot on low until early evening, and now I am enjoying another bowl. The beef is still incredibly moist, though it's been on low heat for the past 18 or 20 hours. Oh, and here's the best part for you Paleo lovers, I'm eating the most tender beef ever, and I got the cheapest cut: bottom round. I could easily trade some t-bones, porterhouse, and even filet mignons for this, often enough.
