The reconditioned blender is a great value. I have not noticed any issues - it works like a brand-new piece of equipment. I don't know how a brand-new blender would be different - this one works great and looks brand-new. This model has the high-low switch (not the 10-speed). I have used both speeds or a combination of speeds. It has worked for me, I don't see the need for a 10-speed blender.
I've used it for a lot of heavy-duty jobs without a problem. The clean up is very easy - put in soap and water, blend for 30 seconds. I would recommend this to anyone. So far, I've made: smoothies, ice cream and sauces. Any ice cubes get totally crushed/blended - no random chunks left. Smoothies are perfectly smooth, ice creams are delicious and creamy, sauces without lumps.
The base is larger then some other models of blender (i.e. will take up more counter space), but the tradeoff for functionality is worth it.

Bought directly from Vitamix. Refurbished two speed. Waited all week and was really excited to try it out since I've incorporated smoothies into my diet and wanted something strong and dependable for that task. It finally arrived today. I unboxed it, set it up, and added my smoothie ingredients. Flipped the switch and, after anticipating the gobs of smoothie making power promised by so many people - nothing. Tried multiple outlets, shifted the container around, checked the base for any obvious issues. Nothing. It's DOA, confirmed by customer support. Rather than accept a replacement from customer service, which was at least courteous and efficient, I decided to buy a Blendtec. That unit arrives tomorrow to replace this junk.
