About the Author

I live in Morgan, Utah with my husband, beautifuldaughter, and a couple of spoiled pups. If I'm not deeply involved in writingmy next book, then I'm probably reading in the safety and quiet of my closet. Ilove yoga - which I now practice regularly - playing hide and seek with mydaughter (only to have my hiding spots revealed by one of the pups), and I loveFruit by the Foot, Twizzlers and Peace Tea. These are great ways to bribe meinto revealing secrets about what's to come.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Supernatural, TheWalking Dead, and The Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy talking about them, so ifyou like them, too, come find me.

Writing has become an enormous part of my life andevery book I write holds a special place in my heart.  If you read one of my books, I hope you havethe same experience.

The boy in high school who you loved from next door, the boy who didn't really see you, turned into a man, joined the military and as so many like him came back shattered.

Now the boy that didn't see you has become the man who can't see you. But fate is a tricky thing and what should be will always find a way to be.

This is a marvelous read from Jessica. I adored Merrick! My heart broke for Grace but yet she fits her name perfectly.

I do not know what it is about these physically broken men that pulls me in and makes me swoon. I would compare Merrick to my most favorite man Archer from Mia Sheridan's Archer's Voice. You just want to wrap them up and carry them around with you.

It is a journey of suvival, strength, love and triumph.

My favorite quotes:

"These lips were made for me. This body, for me. This woman. Made. For. Me."

---SWOON---

"We both have our issues, Grace. But we're stronger together than we ever were apart. And I want you, because I know, right here," I stated, lightly pounding the spot over my heart, "that you're the one for me."

----GAH, MELT---

Just an all around wonderful read that every reader should check out!

I have known many who have served our country. As my husband was stationed in Hawaii at the end of the Vietnam war I saw soldiers returning every single day. When you read "Hawaii" and are all thinking, "wow...what a cushy place to be stationed" think again. I saw vacant eyes, if they still had them, missing limbs, folks who would have a long road ahead each and every day. I was a Red Cross volunteer so I saw them screaming in pain missing single and multiple body parts, not able to move a muscle, and with memories that would make our toes curl.
Reading this book brought all of this back. It was as if it was 1974 all over again and I was going into the lions den to see if I could make a difference for a day. Believe me I never thought I did but I always tried to do whatever I could. This is exactly what this author did with a masterful hand. Ms. Wilde perfected this story with a deft hand. Clearly Mer had already spent a great deal of time healing before Grace met him. I don't know if even she would have been able to take what he was dishing out on a second by second basis while in hospital. Ms. Wilde has researched her topic very carefully to be able to weave such a rich and believable story. The fact that we had a cast of interesting and richly drawn secondary characters really helped with the heaviness that was daily life for this couple. I enjoyed that she included smatters of humor. I can't express how much this story meant to me. It was many things to me for many reasons. I was moved to tears that I thought were long since cried out. She touched a place very deep within my heart and I sobbed like a baby. I sobbed for all those who served then and who serve now. I am beyond thrilled I read this book and this author should be extremely proud of her work.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Grace and Merrick have both been through so much and are fantastic characters. I loved the build-up in this book! I was hooked from the first page and didn't want this book to end. There were moments that made me cry, a few laughs and lots of swooning. Grace and Merrick are dealing with different kinds of grief, they are each damaged in different ways but are able to find comfort in each other. I loved this book - it's a top pick of 2015 for me and has one of my favorite epilogues ever! Highly recommend!

I don't think the blurb gave this book justice. It was so much more than the description, and I'm so very glad I read this. The book starts with Merrick, who has just returned home from war with several injuries, including burns, a leg that's broken in several places, an arm that is similarly damaged, and blindness. Merrick went from being a soldier to a broken man in a wheelchair who can't even use the bathroom without help. To say he's angry about it is an understatement. He continually lashes out at his family members for helping him, but he needs their help. Merrick's mother hires a nurse to be his home care nurse. This nurse, Grace, happens to have recently moved back in with her parents, who live next door to Merrick. Merrick and Grace grew up in these houses but Merrick doesn't remember what Grace even looks like. She was very shy and unpopular while Merrick was the popular kid who went to all the parties in high school. Grace, however, sure remembers him. She and her best friend spent all their spare time crushing on Merrick and watching him whenever they could. But now Grace has to help Merrick deal with his disabilities while his body heals. Grace doesn't cut him slack and doesn't let his grouchy demeanor stop her from working with him. She helps him to be independent in a way that starts to cut through all the anger he has been feeling. And when things get to be too overwhelming for Merrick, the only time he can find peace is when he hears Grace sing. So they form a routine where she sings to him each night through the open windows between their bedrooms, which face each other in their houses. The more time he spends around her, the more it affects him. Merrick then starts to fall for Grace. He is blind, but he sees her in a way he never could if he had his sight.Read more ›
