Top customer reviews
If you plan only only using this backpack for weekend trips or a few vacations a year, it might hold out for you - but as a daily carry, look elsewhere.
The Bad: This is important to read: there are NOT enough dividers in this backpack to perfectly layout your setup. I was so very disappointed in this, because ease of organizing your gear is CRUCIAL! This backpack has so much storage space, but with the difficulty of organizing, you can't use all of it! Also, the velcro that lines the walls to customize your layout is not all over the interior perimeter, which makes it very difficult to place a wall exactly where you cant it. I combined all of the dividers from my previous Amazon pack with this one, and still did not have enough to make my layout perfect. Also, the interior does seem a little thin on the padding. I'm not so sure this backpack can effectively keep your gear cushioned, but we should never be throwing our backpacks to the ground anyways I guess.
The Verdict: This is a great product. Please don't let the huge wall of text in,"The Bad" get me wrong. There is a lot to love here. If you are planning on upgrading from an Amazon Basics bag for more comfort and capacity, THIS IS A GREAT LOW COST CHOICE! With the divider trouble though, you're going to have to do some work (and using old dividers) to get your setup right. I really hope Vivitar is kicking themselves in the pants for skimping on the dividers.
The bag is big....maybe too big for everyday use, but I like the capability to carry my gear. I do like that one can configure the sections in many ways...I have done so about 3 or 4 times since I got a few weeks ago. The entire bottom, back, and top are velcro, it really allows you to configure to your specific needs. I added 2 compartment dividers that I had from other bags and really customized for my needs....everything has a spot and fits tightly.
My biggest gripe #1 though has to do with the flimsiness of the dividers....they leave some gaps from the bottom, and they are not reinforced so they tend to lag under pressure....hence the reason I added two of my own.
Some people have complained that the strap cannot handle weight, but I took it on a day trip with laptop, a top compartment filled with snacks and and extra long sleeve tshirt, plus myy camera gear (Canon t4i + 18-55 kit lens, 55-200 zoom, Goitos air bulb - large), and a few other things and the bag held up nicely.
My Biggest Gripe #2 has to do with the "breathability" of the back pads....they don't!
For the price, this is a great gear bag....
The compartments themselves are well padded, and the accessibility to the sides as well as front zippers is awesome! Being able to change from a shoulder-slung to a cross-slung to a backpack is also great :) The top compartment holds a surprising amount of stuff as well.
Total stuff in the bag currently:
Canon T3i + 18-55 kit lens + Hood
Canon 55-250mm Lens + Hood
Canon 50mm 1.8 Lens + Hood
Ring Light + battery pack + DC adapter (cheap macro stuff)
Polarizing filter/UV filter
2 Portable HDDs
AA Battery Charger
Phone Charger Cables + Wall adapters
Laptop Charger cables
14.6" IBM Laptop
So, it does fit a significant amount of stuff. Couldn't be happier with the purchase!
