I purchased 3 floating camera straps - the Vivatar, the Olympus and the Chums -since they were all pretty inexpensive and they all seemed to have good reviews and bad reviews. After trying out all 3 I decided the Olympus will go with me on my next snorkeling adventure with my new Nikon Coolpix AW100 (which I absolutely love but that's for another review). Here are my observations on all three straps. I ordered all 3 in yellow - the Vivatar was a kind of dingy orangish yellow while the other two were a bright yellow which I felt would be easier to spot so score 1 for Olympus and Chums. The Vivatar and Olympus both were easy to dry off while the Chums is made of a kind of spongy material which doesn't dry off right away so score one for Vivatar and Olympus. The Olympus and Chums fit my wrist very nicely whereas I wasn't quite sure how to attach the Vivatar to my person. I thought the Olympus when it was cinched up fit my wrist especially well so score two for Olympus and one for Chums. A side note here - I have an average man's size hands whereas my wife has long slender hands. The Olympus slid right off of her hand even when it was cinched up so the Chums might actually work better for her. The Olympus and the Chums both seemed more buoyant than the Vivatar. The Vivatar failed the bathtub test - filling my bathtub to the top and dropping the strap into the water attached to the Nikon (it's a Jacuzzi tub so it's fairly deep). The Nikon was actually resting on the bottom of the tub with the Vivatar whereas it was not touching with the other two straps. The Vivatar was holding up one end of the camera so I suspect in deeper waters it would keep the camera floating but I don't know that for sure. Score one apiece for the Olympus and the Chums.Read more ›

Heading to Hawaii and purchased this as a precautiion for my Lumix DMC-TS2 waterproof camera. The product's picture would lead you to beleive it would support a 7.7 ounce point and shoot camera. Not so. Tested it in my hot tub and a 7.7 ounce weight sank as if nothing was attached. The maximum this strap will support is 3.8 ounces. I would think that most waterproof cameras check in at over 3.8 ounces so don't waste your money. By the way, this is in no way a "wrist strap". You can't srink the loop below a 4.25 inch diameter.

This is the WORST design for an underwater camera strap -- whoever designed this clearly has never been in the ocean, bobbing in the waves, diving below the surface of the water and expecting this to stay on their wrist. The adjustable strap does not tighten around the wrist, therefore, the band is too big at all times. The only way this band would ever be snug on a wrist is IF your wrist is 16 inches around -- yes -- 16 inches! Really, Vivitar -- whose wrist is that large?? Unfortunately, we realized this problem once we were in the water and were very conscientious to hold on to the camera at all times.
I give this a NO STAR rating, however, I had to click on 1 star to get my feedback accepted. DO NOT BUY THIS STRAP IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR CAMERA!

We got the floating wrist strap for a trip vacation to the Caribbean. The strap made it easier to snorkel with our underwater-camera. I checked it before starting out and it did float with the weight of our small camera. Loved the yellow color and was comfortable to wear. Would have been 5-star except that the strap is so big and cannot be made small enough for most wrists. Before we went, I sewed some elastic on it to make it smaller and then it fit better. Sewing the elastic was easy. To add to my confidence, I also added a second hook to attach the camera in 2 places, just in case. I recommend a strap like this for snorkeling.

Bought this for my Kodak Playsport ZX3 waterproof camera. Going on vacation and am a little paranoid about dropping the camera to the bottom of the ocean. This float will support the ZX3 sufficiently, definitely bouyant enough, my only concern is the fragility of the quick-connect connector between the loop that connects to the camera and the float itself. The plastic doesn't seem all that sturdy, and the loop is pretty thin. I'm going to put it through some gorilla testing before I trust my camera to it. I will probably supplement/modify those parts before my trip for peace of mind. Overall, it's okay, will float a camera, so in a pool or shallow water it would be fine...but I don't think I'd trust it attached to my wrist while swimming around in deep water, I don't have confidence that the parts can take that degree of strain.

I expected this camera wrist strap to go around my wrist. And it DOES, adjusting from 17" to 24". Not AT ALL sure where the product dimensions came from! It describes it as 8 1/2 inches...they must mean when it's folded. I have large hands but this won't keep the camera from sliding off my wrist, EASILY, so if this thing floats, it'll be a good thing. Also the nylon braided thread link to attach to the camera doesn't fill me with confidence. It might be tougher than it looks. I sure hope so!

I bought this in conjunction with a waterproof digital camera for a family vacation. I was planning on taking a lot of photos in the sea, and the last thing I needed was to accidentally drop the camera into the water and lose it, along with all the photos that were on it. The strap has a simple loop that is looped on to the camera in place of the standard wrist strap that most cameras come with. Admittedly, it is a little bulky to carry around your wrist, but a small price to pay to keep your camera floating in case it is dropped into water. This will keep your camera afloat, no matter how hard it is dropped or how far it is thrown.
