I have owned the Q2 before this and was impressed with the quality. A colleague of mine really like fit so I sold it to him so I could upgrade to the Q5. Well... I am equally impressed. There are a few new features and a bump in Lumens. It has gone from 300 to 500 and you do notice the difference.
Some talk about the issue of refocusing after 5-10 min of warm up - Yes, you need to do this but really... its not a big deal. One quick adjustment shortly after you turn it on. Many will be set up a bit early and can adjust this even before you are actually presenting anyway. If you are mounting up high or placing out of reach for home movie room it could be a pain but this is not designed for that. Its portable hence meant to be taken for travel.
Overall it is a great product and produces a nice large image. It is very quiet though has a little bump in noise when the fan kicks in. Still much quieter than the larger traditional projectors. It works seamlessly hooked up to my IPhone, IPad, Macbook Air, and Windows Surface. I use an HDMI cable (standard size HDMI on Q5 - adapter for device to plug in reg HDMI to device)
Keep in mind it is NOT a full scale professional projector. It is not everything the larger projectors are but will do a great job time after time for the core market it was intended. Traveling/Mobile professionals who need more than a computer screen yet not necessarily a full scale conf and projector set up, A beginner to mid level gamers/computer player, etc. Vivitek does a great job with this line of projectors. If the Q7 was this small I would purchase that as well.
As an object this projector is really beautiful and seems well made. It's heavy and solid and intelligently designed. My only issue with the physical layout would be the relationship between the focus wheel on the side and the touch-sensitive buttons on the top surface. The focus wheel is a little stiff, but if you accidentally touch the top of the unit while adjusting the focus you wind up hitting the menu buttons on top.
And speaking of the menu buttons, it's a little alarming that some functions can only be accessed using the remote control. I ALWAYS lose remotes. So far I've managed to hold onto this one, but I'm not optimistic.
Overall, I'm happy with my Qumi. I bought it as an alternative to a television, and now that it's set up and connected to the Roku and my stereo it works exactly as I had hoped.
To start with I had problems getting it to work with different computers. After a bit of playing I got my tablet working with its mini-vga output but I couldn't get a laptop hdmi to work. When I use the remote the problems went away. The remote's menu system is much simpler than the one on the computer screen and when you press the 'source' button it switches mode easily. I wasn't sure whether to give 4 stars based on my initial problems or 5 stars now I've figured it out. To me 5 stars means 'exceeds expectations for this type of product at this price' so it gets a 5

Only problem is the noise, a high pitched whine from the fan does get on my nerves. Headphones required.
The only minor problem is that there is nothing to set the angle right (like screws for example), so we had to sort that out ourselves.
