I recently purchased the Vizio XCV100 Internet TV Camera and am thrilled with it. I have always been hesitant to buy a camera like this because just about every one I've ever seen has a slight disturbing time lag between what you are seeing on the screen and the actual voice. I finally gave in and bought this one and I am so pleased that I did. I have not had any problem at all with a time lag. I have my TV wired directly to my internet router so I'm not using the wireless feature. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
The camera works as advertised, very good quality and the microphones are outstanding. My wife can be sitting across the room from the TV/Camera, about 19 feet, and who we are talking to picks up her every word.
The camera itself is very light. In fact when I first received the box I thought I had been sent an empty box. But it fits right on top of the TV and the black color blends perfectly with the existing black TV around my Vizio. It is very easy to overlook that it is even there.
The instructions and set up were easy and I was up and running within 20 minutes and that included getting my Skype account.
It is a hoot to talk long distance to my kids on this thing. Buy it and enjoy it.

I like the ease of use and the convenience of this camera. Just plug it in and long distance grandparents are in the room to watch my daughter's ballet moves or hear her song. My husband is also gone for long periods for his job so this is great for me too.

The only complaint I get from our Skype contacts is that the picture is a little blurry. And since this is across the board with every call, on just the TV (and not our laptop camera), it must be the camera quality.

Basically it works without hassle. They don't even bother to include a user manual with it. Plug it in the TV's USB. Just enter your Skype user name and password, check the auto login button whenever the TV is on, then kids can answer Grandma's call themselves whatever they are doing with the TV, watching cable or playing video games.

It is designed to fit in all the family in the video. So forget about zooming. Does any webcam even have zooming? It can see the whole of an average size living room, or most of it. It got adaptive algorithms so it can pick up near whispers around the room but won't hurt your ears for loud noise. You can also use it for monitoring the kids at work, or as a security cam.

As for the video quality, you got a Vizio TV right? What do you care? If you do, read on.

The advertised 720 HD is about right. It's not full HD at 1080p. Surprisingly it's not 16:9 !!! (1.77) Why oh why??? I remember it says 1080:720 on the package. That's 1.5 like some photos. Skype works in mysterious ways and you cannot set it. As the attached picture, I got 962:720 (after scaling). That's 1.34, about that of analog TV 4:3. That's a test from the TV (wireless) to my computer (wired) via Skype using the same router. But one IP is local while another is routed via the opposite coast using VPN.

First of all, the video depends very much on your Internet connection and Skype. So don't test it on mobile phones without 4G data. If your wi-fi connection pass the Vudu movie tests for example, you should be OK I think.

Second, obviously it's CMOS like most webcam and many cameras. You will get 720 perhaps in sunny outdoors. As the picture attached is taken indoors, you can see the grains.

Like my title says. The camera itself is top notch. The microphones are very sensitive to allow speaking at normal conversation volume without picking up feedback from the TV speakers that are very close. The VIZIO Skype App though is clumsy. General camera controls are absent, so don't expect to zoom. Camera covers whole room at 10ft. And counter to advertised literature, the Skype takes over the whole screen, interupting the program you were watching when you accept the call. :-(

While the idea of mounting a Skype camera on the tv set sounds cool.. it forces you to sit in front of the set for the other person to see you. And while it's nice to be able to watch the other party on your tv set.. it's a lot more convenient to log on to Skype from your cell phone and be able to walk around with it or move it to point it to something or someone else in the room for the other person to see.. something which is not terribly practical with a mounted camera. So basically for me this is a cool toy but definitely not a good way to Skype.

Got this for my in-laws so they could see their first grandchild from 1500 miles away. They aren't the most computer saavy so this seemed like a good option. It is. They can use it easily, get a much bigger picture on their tv than on their computer screen and operate it totally from the remote. WIde field of view and while the picture is sometimes not great from our end, usually this is a function of bandwidth.
