I agree with another reviewer the title is misleading. I think this book would be much better if the, in my opinion totally irrelevant, relationship to "Dracula" were removed and it was turned into a conventional romance. The main character has a birthmark and violent dreams, apparently linking her to the historical character. This relationship ultimately leads to a rather dubious inheritance, casting doubt on the motives of her love interest. I could not decide which plot line was the correct one to follow and, ultimately, they all ended up leading no where.
I am aware there are more books to follow but I have very little desire to spend any sort of money to find out where these convoluted plots lead. I honestly do not even have a concrete idea of what these people actually look like! There are times when I like the male main character and times when I don't. By the end of the book I definitely did not like the female main character.
Would not purchase this book.
though the title may give that impression if that's what you look at without reading the details. Part of the story takes place in Romania, near the home turf of Vlad the Impaler, after Gwen accepts an offer Alex makes for her
to spend the summer taking care of his daughter.
As they get to know each other, a relationship develops, but just as things seem to go well, something gets in the way. Will these two ever be able to stay together?
There is to be a sequel, and I look forward to spending more time with these characters. I've read other Beth Orsoff books, and love her witty dialogue and interesting characters. Vlad did not disappoint.
One of the things that all of Ms. Orsoff's books have in common is that the characters are all beautifully and realistically flawed. This is not a book about a damsel in distress that is saved by Prince Charming. This is a book about two people who get in the way of their own happiness.
I found myself alternately loving and being exasperated with Gwen and Alex as they struggled to figure out their relashionship.
In many ways this book reminds me of Gone With The Wind. It is an emotional and frustrating ride that left me wanting more. I was pleased to see the excerpt of the sequel when the book ended. I am happy to know their will be a sequel!

Having said all of that I still quite enjoyed the story and if you haven't read any of Beth's books before please don't let this one put you off - the rest are brilliant!
'Reads' I just have not managed to look at this one yet!!
