Product Description
The NOKTON designation is only given to high-speed lenses in the Voigtländer lineup with a maximum aperture of F1.5 or faster. When the first NOKTON was released in the 1950s, it was positioned as a lens that enabled images to be captured even in low light. However, with constantly improving imaging sensor sensitivity, the advantage of a high-speed lens nowadays is the ability to use as a means of photographic expression the out-of-focus bokeh created by opening the aperture.

Update1: for astrophotography -- coma is very average at F1.4, gets better at F2.0. That and high levels of vignetting at F1.4 might actually be a problem for astro.
Update2: I already mentioned that it's very impressive in good light. Here I uploaded some pictures to show that it's pretty much very average to say the least before stopped down at night. At F1.8 it exhibits flare and much coma. It gets much better stopped down but then the advantage of F1.4 is lost and there are other alternatives at 2.8 like the Loxia and Batis. This is basically not the lens to use at night wide open unless for night portraits.
I will give it 4 stars now because I feel it's a bit overpriced for what it is. If 21mm wasn't important, then Sony 24mm GM would be a more rounded choice and it's only 200 dollars more. If you're going to stop it all the time to F2.8 and up then Zeiss lenses are very strong contenders.
