I suggest you go to the official IAMX web site (iamx.eu) and download a digital copy. It will only cost you thirteen dollars, and it comes with the following goodies:
1. PDF file of album artwork and lyrics
2. Exclusive b-side entitled "Avalanches"
3. That warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you support artists directly
And how IS the album, you ask?
Well, if you're familiar with IAMX (and you probably are if you're even reading this) then you know what to expect. This album shouldn't disappoint you. Not every song is a stand-out, but each one is good if not great. "Music People" is one of my favorite songs to come from Chris Corner. Ever. If you ask me, that song alone is worth thirteen dollars.
Anyway, quit wasting time. Go buy it!
Have been following this gentleman for quite some time and love just about every footstep he takes. Chris Corner blows the dust off the boredom of life with his music.
Macabre at times but definitely propulsive at other times. It almost feels like being dragged through a book on European history and coming out the other side wide eyed and with splinters from Chopin's piano stuck in your teeth. Nothing short of excellent songwriting and hooks that will drown you at sea.
A half gypsy caravan/half burlesque disco rolling down a never ending hill driven by Toulouse Lautrec drunk on absynthe - hardly boring in my books.
- early Bowie, glam rock, Japan/Sylvian, DM, Chopin, Bach, early Simple Minds, a little Skinny Puppy, Cabaret soundtrack, public tv history docs.........
I can only suppose either his fans tend to be silent re. on-line opinion and reviews or he has few....I know he doesn't care - he only wants to make music that is great to him and any other that may also find it great.
This is a dark record, even as IAMX albums go. I recall reading an interview with Chris Corner, the brilliant man behind IAMX, and it seemed like this was the point where he became his most disenchanted with the music business. Evidence of that is on full display right from the start, with the opening track, 'Music People'.
However, there is also a lot of variety in this record, from danceable electronica to slow piano ballads to the fabulous old circus swing feel of 'Bernadette'.
I came across IAMX as I was exploring the Sneaker Pimps catalog, especially their final two studio releases 'Splinter' and 'Bloodsport', both featuring Chris Corner on lead vocals. I loved Corner's voice and music so much that I even sought out the unreleased Sneaker Pimps 'SP4' album, which was supposed to be the follow up to 'Bloodsport'. Unfortunately, this masterpiece of a record was never released BUT many of those songs would show up later on IAMX records. What was initially planned as a side project for Corner became his full-time gig and Sneaker Pimps were not to be seen again, aside from a reunion tour here and there.
And so we lost the Sneaker Pimps but we gained IAMX. Please try to refrain from comparing the two and just experience IAMX on its own, for what it is. IAMX quickly became one of my very favorite artists and I highly encourage anyone who is curious to check out their catalog, including the wonderful US reissue of 'Volatile Times'.

you'll love this album. Modernized gothy horror punk, but not like the Misfits. More like Edgar Allen Poe with a backup band.Published on October 18, 2013 by Felix Oupopote
Ever since Sneaker Pimps hit the scene the music world has been better off to have Chris' works added to it. Read morePublished on September 7, 2013 by Mr. Scott W. Luckman
