IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO BUY THIS ALBUM

I suggest you go to the official IAMX web site (iamx.eu) and download a digital copy. It will only cost you thirteen dollars, and it comes with the following goodies:

1. PDF file of album artwork and lyrics
2. Exclusive b-side entitled "Avalanches"
3. That warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you support artists directly

And how IS the album, you ask?

Well, if you're familiar with IAMX (and you probably are if you're even reading this) then you know what to expect. This album shouldn't disappoint you. Not every song is a stand-out, but each one is good if not great. "Music People" is one of my favorite songs to come from Chris Corner. Ever. If you ask me, that song alone is worth thirteen dollars.

Anyway, quit wasting time. Go buy it!

You'll get no song by song review from me on this - I love it all!

Have been following this gentleman for quite some time and love just about every footstep he takes. Chris Corner blows the dust off the boredom of life with his music.

Macabre at times but definitely propulsive at other times. It almost feels like being dragged through a book on European history and coming out the other side wide eyed and with splinters from Chopin's piano stuck in your teeth. Nothing short of excellent songwriting and hooks that will drown you at sea.

A half gypsy caravan/half burlesque disco rolling down a never ending hill driven by Toulouse Lautrec drunk on absynthe - hardly boring in my books.

- early Bowie, glam rock, Japan/Sylvian, DM, Chopin, Bach, early Simple Minds, a little Skinny Puppy, Cabaret soundtrack, public tv history docs.........

I can only suppose either his fans tend to be silent re. on-line opinion and reviews or he has few....I know he doesn't care - he only wants to make music that is great to him and any other that may also find it great.

Volatile times is a psychotic carnival ride that passes through an echo chamber of laments and an erotic cabaret with a tour guided by musical genius. I think the singing on this album is probably Chris' best. Sadly in the US you can't preview it but you can get chunks of it from the official IAMX YouTube channel. As you will hear Ghosts of Utopia is amazing and Bernadette is fantastic. The rest of the album is also wonderful. If you like the earlier IAMX albums you will not be disappointed by the musical talent shown here. Be sure to check the official IAMX website to crowdsource fund the next album....

I was really excited when I heard that this album was being reworked and released through US vendors such as Amazon. For some reason, this has been the 'lost' IAMX album...until now!
This is a dark record, even as IAMX albums go. I recall reading an interview with Chris Corner, the brilliant man behind IAMX, and it seemed like this was the point where he became his most disenchanted with the music business. Evidence of that is on full display right from the start, with the opening track, 'Music People'.
However, there is also a lot of variety in this record, from danceable electronica to slow piano ballads to the fabulous old circus swing feel of 'Bernadette'.
I came across IAMX as I was exploring the Sneaker Pimps catalog, especially their final two studio releases 'Splinter' and 'Bloodsport', both featuring Chris Corner on lead vocals. I loved Corner's voice and music so much that I even sought out the unreleased Sneaker Pimps 'SP4' album, which was supposed to be the follow up to 'Bloodsport'. Unfortunately, this masterpiece of a record was never released BUT many of those songs would show up later on IAMX records. What was initially planned as a side project for Corner became his full-time gig and Sneaker Pimps were not to be seen again, aside from a reunion tour here and there.
And so we lost the Sneaker Pimps but we gained IAMX. Please try to refrain from comparing the two and just experience IAMX on its own, for what it is. IAMX quickly became one of my very favorite artists and I highly encourage anyone who is curious to check out their catalog, including the wonderful US reissue of 'Volatile Times'.

I have the CD album and he should have included the song "Avalanches" and the remix to "Volatile Times" that was only available on CD through his website on a limited basis. He should re-release the album on CD with everything that is included in the mp3 version. This man should be a Superstar is his own right, I have all of his albums and he never disappoints.

The original IAMX CD, released in March 2011, was brilliant. This new Chris Corner remix for USA digital is even better. Volatile Times has many layers of intricate music, intelligent lyrics and Chris Corner has a wide range beautiful voice. Very happy to have purchased both the CD and this remix. Every time I listen to either one, I always discover something new, a sound and emotion that become more apparent than before.
