This is my 5 year old grandson's favorite book. He almost knows it by heart and still wants either grandpa to read it too him every time a grandpa happens to be visiting. As a geologist, I think it's the perfect technical level for kids.

this is a great book for 4 to 8 year olds who are interested in volcanoes. It raised questions and led to good discussions about the formation of rocks and the impact of volcanoes on the earth

My son loved this book. He's in 1st grade and can read most words by himself. It's great to see him reading and enjoying it.

this was a very nice book with awesome pictures. i did sent it back however because it was a little too easy for my 1st grader who reads at a 3rd-4th grade level. it would have been great for her a 1-2 years ago. it's probably perfect for a kindergartner or pre-schooler who reads with a little help, or a 1st grade who reads at an average level. overall it's exactly what you'd expect from national geographic, which is nothing less than excellent.

Among all the NG kids books we got (and we probably got them all) this one did not really capture my 6 1/2 and 4 1/2 sons' attention. I am not saying that the book is bad, but my kids are probably not interested in the subject... Nonetheless, the older kid read it to his brother (only once though, compared to the spiders and bats and snakes and lizards and so on and so on...)

My 3.5 year old son has shown an interest in volcanoes (we live near Mt. At. Helens) and so I got this book for him. He loves looking at all the pictures and asked us to read it to him often. I'd definitely buy more of this series to help spark learning and engagement with my kids.

This book went along with our volcano that we bought and built. All the kids learned a great deal from this book. My son still picks it out during nighttime story reading or will randomly bring it to me to read during the day.
