I am 53 years old and this is my first stainless steel mixing bowl. I could kick myself for not getting a full set decades ago. I have used this thing more in two weeks than I have most of my purchases in a year. It is sturdy - I have it nested below a full set of glass mixing bowls and it holds the weight of those bowls with no signs of warping when I pull all the bowls down from the cabinet. It is much lighter and cleans quickly. Because it is short and wide, it is easier to put in the dishwasher without blocking water spray from cleaning the other dishes in the washer. No signs of rusting at all, but I have only had it a few weeks. I do cook a lot and always have, but because I was warned of metals reacting with certain foods during prep in my high school Home Ec classes, I had just chosen to forgo any metal mixing bowls over the past 33 years. I will be getting a full set of the in these in the near future. I was familiar with the Vollrath reputation for quality before I made this purchase and I was not disappointed at all!

Perfect size giant bowl
After checking out several bowls and their respective reviews, I chose this Vollrath 8qt bowl. I am attaching a photo of the bowl inside a sink so that should give you an idea of how big an 8qt bowl is. It is sturdy but not heavy. The bottom doesn't "pop" like some reviewers said about other bowls. There is an abrasion in the middle of the bottom but I am not going to return it for that reason. It looks pretty harmless. This is a perfect bowl when making any huge serving of salad, pasta, or making filling for 290 potstickers. And it's so not huge that it's hard to wash it over the sink.

I am attaching a photo of the bowl inside a sink so that should give you an idea of how big an 8qt bowl is. It is sturdy but not heavy. The bottom doesn't "pop" like some reviewers said about other bowls. There is an abrasion in the middle of the bottom but I am not going to return it for that reason. It looks pretty harmless. Perfect size, lightweight
I needed a large bowl for kitchen prep and this one is the perfect size. It’s super lightweight and well made, with the exception of a small nick on the rim edge. Note that the diameter measurement in the ad says 13.5" and that is to the edge of the rim. The actual measurement inside the rim is 12.25" with a height of 4.5".Perfect size, lightweightStormy
