If you are in a position of volunteer management, you would benefit greatly by reading this book. I personally have spent a good part of my life volunteering at church, animal shelters, and homeless organizations volunteering and also managing volunteers. I was clueless on how to enlist and retain volunteers. Bryan speaks much about the modern world that we live in and how little and precious time people have. This is key to understanding the pool of volunteers of today, and how not to let them suffer from burnout and leave your organization.
I know you will find this book invaluable to your organization. It is easy reading that will go a long way in making your own life easier by obtaining and retaining good volunteers.
I have always wanted to make sure that the volunteers have the best experience possible, while helping the organization, so I have read books and attended training that helped somewhat. But I have found that the details in this wonderful, informative book can help anyone learn how to create and improve their own volunteer program. It really is complete and is organized in such a way that you can read it straight through, and then just go to the subject in which you are interested at any time.
If you want to run an efficient, compassionate, and effective volunteer event, and if you want your volunteers to keep coming back, then this easy read is written for you.
P.S. After reading this book I did two things.
1 - I called a few volunteers to express my gratitude for their service and to ask for their wisdom in developing a more strategic volunteer plan.
2 - I started his other volunteer book. It's not as quick of a read. It dives deeper into the minutia.
